Another Calvary Chapel Split

Now there are three groups claiming the dove.

About the same number of people that will care..

This split is from the Calvary Global Network…a group called the Calvary Chapel Cooperative has left that group and started one of their own.

The reason for the split?

Brian Brodersen attended the ordination ceremony of a woman.

A woman…who was a long time friend who worked in many capacities for Brodersen for years.

Oh, the horror!

Brodersen wasn’t going to change the Calvary position on female pastors…but evidently some folks wanted a reason to split.

So…now there are three Calvary Chapels in the race to irrelevance…I’m rooting for them all to win that one…

The Apostle Paul hated women too…

They have figured out a way to leave their church to a wife or a daughter when they pass.

Every Calvary Chapel church will either adapt in some manner (become more progressive, drop dispensationalism, join up with somebody big we know of or some group yet to come, or die out when their leaders pass into eternity.

When the last church drops the DoveTM and the movement passes into history, in a way it’ll be a sad day. Not just because of all the pain and misery that was never addressed here on Earth, but because of all the good that was done through those churches, by God and by His people.

That said, if there’s ever another CC split where the new group follows the Anglicans, John Calvin or Bethel….duck 😉

Dumb question-is the dove trade-marked? Could they all go to court claiming who the dove “really”belongs?

  6. Michael says:

    Brian D,

The CCA leadership is aging out…and we haven’t seen much brilliance in the younger guys…who do seem to have more ego than charisma…nobody outside of individual churches will care…

  7. Michael says:

    Linn,

That battle was fought already…the dove remains without ownership.

Any woman with an AA degree from a community college has more higher education than the average male CC pastor.

    splitting only minimizes reach.

    Split away!

  9. Captain Kevin says:

I know it’s not a split, per se, but Crossroads in Vancouver, where Daniel Fusco leads, has two women on their pastoral staff. One is considered the women’s pastor, but I know she has preached on Sundays. As far as I can tell, Crossroads is no longer a Calvary. Good for them!

    Anyone know where cchemet sides?

  11. Jerod says:

Filbertz- i see what you did there, lol

  12. Jerod says:

Final note – Lord, thank you for my Lutheran church. Wish MLD were still here.

  13. Michael says:

    Jerod,

    CCA…

  14. Jerod says:

    Well, maranatha, then.

I’m curious, if you were in calvary and now you had these three options, and three churches where you lived claimed CCA, CGN, and the other CCC, and each one was just trying to stay faithful to the biblical principles that calvary has (and remaining gracious on non essentials), which would you prefer? Perhaps this is for Michael, and if not Michael, someone quite familiar with the distinctions. There’s no fourth option! Lol. I attend a calvary. And to be honest, I don’t intend on leaving. I’ve had a wonderful calvary experience. That’s not to discredit any of yours.

  16. Michael says:

    FrenchHorn,

If those were my choices, I’d stay home.

I don’t think CC is based on “biblical principles”, it is based on early Pentecostal dispensationalism and pastoral authoritarianism. If I had a gun to my head, I’d probably choose CGN…because they are at least aware that other traditions have validity.

  17. John in AZ says:

I just became aware of the big split and civil war at Capistrano Beach Church, which happened a year ago. I was very sad to hear that! Has anything about that been discussed here?

  18. Michael says:

    John in AZ,

I’m mostly retired from the CC beat…I don’t even try to keep up with their foolishness anymore.

I haven’t heard anything about CCCBC…but it seems to have a conflict every few years…

  19. FrenchHorn says:

Sorry I meant the biblical part that cc holds, not their unbiblical traditions.
Thanks for sharing your perspective! I see what you mean with the CGN part.

  20. Bill says:

Wasn’t chuck smith given the pulpit by a woman?

  21. Ra's al Ghul says:

    Bill,

Considering that Chuck Smith was ordained and came out of the Four Square Denomination founded by notorious and controversial Aimee Semple Macpherson, you are correct.

  22. Bill says:

Recently got kicked out of a cc for ….. disagreeing with the supreme leader

Massive smear campaign, shunning, narcissist gaslighting etc.
