TGIF
I was where I didn’t want to be and my countenance probably showed it.
T and I were in line at Taco Bell and I don’t like being in any line and I don’t particularly like Taco Bell.
T functions as my wing man in these situations, acting like the person I should act like, but don’t want to act like.
I walk about as if I’m in a private space in public…I do not want to interact, I just want to get what I’ve come for and leave.
T, on the other hand…is nice.
He does my “nice” for me.
This line was reflective of why I don’t enjoy being among the masses…they were alternately checking the menu board and spouting cruel comments about the cashier.
She did not meet their standards of physical attraction and they whispered about it just loud enough for her to hear.
She was rattled by what she heard and tried to pretend she didn’t hear it at all and all of this hearing and pretending distracted and slowed her, which fed the cruelty of those who wanted a cheap taco and a strangers soul for lunch.
She was beaten down enough that when it was our turn to order, she could not look up at those she assumed were another set of tormenters.
She stared down at the computer and softly asked us what we wanted to order.
Then… my wing man went to work.
“HI! How are YOU? How are YOU doing today ??!!”
He was sincerely greeting her and affirming that she was a person with inherent value.
The effect was something close to pouring cold water on parched earth…her facial muscles relaxed and she let go of the computer she had been holding on to with both hands.
Being spoken to as a human being enabled the hint of a smile and a soft “thank you”.
When T had finished ordering, he thanked her and wished her a very good day.
I think I saw her soul restored in front of us.
I, of course, remained silent through the entire exchange.
I have a wing man.
He does my “nice” for me.
The possibility exists that at some point I should probably do it for myself.
Maybe if I did there would be more soul restoration around me.
Maybe.
Make your own application…
I feel ya
The things we learn “south of border.”
You can’t beat a good burrito! Side of guacamole please.
T is great! God keep…
make my order a mess of tacos at the drive up window
??
Jean,
Not only am I not very nice, I hate guacamole. 🙂
Avocados have the texture of snot with a sinus infection…
I am going to report comment #5 to the ODMs. That is downright heretical.
Jean,
They expect this…now they’re accusing me of being on the road to “wafer worship”.
That’s what guacamole can do to your thinking faculties… 🙂
em, what exactly constitutes “a mess of tacos?”
Hates guacamole
Anathema!
If ever there was a way to lose your salvation, hating avocados and guacamole would have to be it.
Michael, gotta love that wingman of yours!
The only thing I hate more than avocados is tofu…which is the waste product of demons.
I’m just a mean old man…
CK,
I only wish his behavior was that exemplary at home… 🙂
An avocado was the fruit that the serpent tempted Eve with.
Most fattening food from a tree.
It’s a mean world out there and we need more like T.
Beautiful…..
Costco, but they’re the good fats. Kind of like we say in Arizona, “but it’s a dry heat.”
OK, Michael, now when it comes to tofu, I’m right there with you. (insert green barfing emoji here)
“I only wish his behavior was that exemplary at home.”
I only wish MY behavior was that exemplary at home!
I’m with Michael on the guacamole thing. (Don’t worry Michael, I’ve got your back!)
CK: That green barfing emoji would just be guacamole with a face. 🙂
CK @ 18…you have a point there.
Me too…
“That green barfing emoji would just be guacamole with a face. ”
Comment of the year.
Competition is now closed. 🙂
I don’t know Michael. You’ve always been super nice to me. ?
Cash,
It’s been easy to be friends with you.
I’m just not much of a group person… more like a hermit person… 🙂
Cash…. good to see you comment again.
I so resonate with this for I have a wingman as well. I often use my 24 year old son with Down syndrome as a social buffer. He’s so kind and gegarious. I have learned many life lessons by how he interacts with strangers.
The best CCM music is made by artists, not people trying to make a buck or find fame. I would put Daniel Amos’ recent album “Dig Here Said the Angel” at the top of my list. Terry Taylor stares dearh in the eye on a haunting, yet sometimes humorous disc.
The Odd man out here. Loves Avocados and Brussel Sprouts.
Dude, you would hate it here where I live. Makes Oregon look like a ghost town. People everywhere you go. Takes forever to drive anywhere because of all the traffic. I love!! I love people.
Kudos to T. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. T goes straight to the heart. Bravo!
Track 5 from Daniel Amos’s debut album (1976)
I am not by any means an expert on CCM. When I look back at Nixon era, I don’t recall Christian preachers or Christian music pushing back against the government’s narrative, but I did hear lots of musicians protesting through music. The interesting thing is that most of them probably weree non-Christians. Yet, God used them and their gifts to turn a country against the Vietnam war and the government tyranny.
May young musicians today, Christians and pagans, call the current corruption in government to account, capture the hearts of Americans, and restore some semblance of truth and justice to our nation. Music is a powerful medium, and one I cherish.
I love you big brother. And your wing man!
Cash, so good to see you!
@28
Surfer,
LoL!! I went to Costco yesterday and it was really busy. I told my wife I should go to Costco every Saturday whenever I think I want to move away from here and relocate to a more populated area.
Praying for you.
