Throckmorton, Christianity Today, Smack GFA
“One former board member, Skip Heitzig, still seems to be engaged in damage control. Not long ago, he allowed a subordinate to write a letter about GFA that minimized the findings of both the ECFA and his former board colleague, Gayle Erwin. Heitzig’s assistant declared that no independent investigation had established wrongdoing on the part of GFA.
This is an incredible claim given that Heitzig had access to both ECFA’s report of 17 areas of concern leading to an ECFA board vote which found GFA in violation of five financial standards. Furthermore, now we know that Heitzig had access to Gayle Erwin’s report and sat on the GFA board which approved suppression of Erwin’s findings.
The suppression of Erwin’s report is, like so many aspects of the unraveling GFA story, truly scandalous. Donors, supporting churches, and the general public expect board members to look out for their interests and the interests of people served. It remains to be seen whether the GFA board will step up to those responsibilities.”
What more can I say?
Christianity Today goes all in on the story as well…
Let’s talk about this for a moment.
CT won’t touch a story they can’t fact check and run through the legal department.
For them to do this much of a report speaks to the excellent work that Warren Throckmorton has done every step of the way in reporting this abomination.
This is his work, rewritten and affirmed.
Finally, I can’t help but wonder where radical Francis Chan is…
ccphilly finally removed K.P. sermons from their archives. I guess the criticism reached a critical mass.
Andrew,
That’s good info…thank you.
Wonder when this will drop off Skip’s bio…
“He has been awarded a doctor honoris causa from GFA Biblical Seminary.”
Linnea,
Good find. 🙂
This story separates the men from the yes men.
Skip Heitzig, if you are reading this, how does it feel to have betrayed the name of Jesus?
You are a coward.
How do you sleep at night?
The pretty obvious answer, Disillusioned, is that he does not genuinely care about Jesus or Christianity.
J2, I agree.
I just can’t help crying out into the wilderness.
Perhaps the reason Skippy doesn’t speak out is that he has something to hide? Just saying…
And I’d be shocked if he didn’t have something to hide, given his past behavior. “Birds of a feather flock together.” My grandmother used to say that. A wise woman.
I’m sure there have always been thieves in the church (Judas was the first), but what surprises me is the vast numbers of thieves in charge of churches today. With no accountability they feel empowered to fleece the sheep. However, there will be an accounting. “His judgment commeth and that right soon.”
