Don’t Let Go and Let God…
One of the most frequent (and irritating) responses we get when writing about church abuse issues is that we should “let go and let God handle it”.
Now that sounds full of piety, but it’s both unbiblical and foolish.
What if we applied that rule to good works or charity?
What if the Good Samaritan kept on walking, saying a silent prayer to God on behalf of the battered traveler ?
God has ordained and empowered the church to handle church business…read the entire book of First Corinthians as an example.
He’s entrusted us to clean up the messes we make , and like a good parent, leaves us in our own messes if we don’t.
The only people who want you to “let go and let God” are corrupt and abusive leaders who are delaying their own judgment to the eschaton.
It is our job as those who are victims or advocates for victims (we are all one or both) in the church to bring the righteousness and goodness of God to abusive situations and βLet him who has done this be removed from among you.β (1 Corinthians 5:2 ESV)
If we want to live in a clean and safe house…we have to clean house.
Grab a broom and do something…you can pray while you work…
Make your own application…
No one can read the letters to the churches at te start of Revelation and come to any other conclusion than what Michael has laid out here . IMNSHO
Thank you for exposing the spiritual abuse. I agree if leadership stands by and watches it they are just as guilty as the abusers. Spiritual abuse is about the worst thing that can happen to a christian. They make sure you know they don’t approve of you and bring God’s name into it by shaming you!
Please be a voice of the weak!
