Happy Independence Day
Last night a posted a request on social media that folks would pray… for my cat, Chester.
People responded.
People from all across this country, people of differing faith traditions and no tradition at all, people who agree with me and people who vigorously disagree with me.
They responded with grace and love and yes, thoughts and prayers.
People dropped their temporal differences with me to offer kindness in spirit and hope.
Our barriers, though significant, melted in favor of a common good.
That’s what being an American has always meant to me.
A country as diverse in every way as God’s creation, but willing to work as one for the best ideals we know of.
A country that responded to needs both great and small with generosity and dignity.
A country that was blessed with much and gave much in return.
A country that acknowledged wrongs and sought to bring justice.
We strove to be about better things.
May it be so again and forever.
May God bless America again (and you as well) as we follow Him.
Happy 4th!

Amen, Michael! Hope and pray that Chester is doing better today.
Yes, the love of cats and their ‘staff’ transcends all divisions. Prayers for Chester. A sick beloved kitty is a source of soul grief….
“What am I to do? I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good work, therefore, any kindness, or any service I can render to any soul of man or animal let me do it now. Let me not neglect or defer it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
–An Old Quaker Saying
From July 30th devotion in Streams in the Desert, that I happened to ‘accidentally’ read on June 30th after spending a zillion dollars (again) on my cats at the vet.
I’m posting that saying everywhere…
Paige…love that Quaker saying. Reminds me of Micah 6:8, and the command to love our neighbor as ourselves.
It is good to hear the hope in your words of the America we all love. The shining city on a hill. A country we all love in our own peculiar ways and beliefs. It’s good to remember that we are still one people even with all our differences. Thanks for the reminder and have a blessed Independence Day. Also, still praying for you and Chester.
God help America, land that i love
Stand beside her (not sure about that…. might maybe be better if we’d stand beside Him)
And guide her
Thru the night
With Your light
From above
Amen….
