Jean’s Gospel: It Is Finished

By Jean Dragon

Against God in heaven our first parents rebelled, forsaking His justice and truth;

Now with hearts corrupted by sin, mankind thinks evil thoughts from our youth.

God looked with displeasure that no one does good, not even one.

Then His own arm brought salvation, Christ Jesus, God’s only begotten Son.

He thirsted for His sheep who were weary and oppressed;

They had no shepherds to lead them to green pasture and waters of rest.

Look at Christ Jesus lifted up from the earth, drawing all people to Himself;

The thirsty He satisfies with living water; in them to eternal life it wells up.

We now have peace with God through the blood of our Savior God’s Son;

Who, while we were still sinners, was crucified and died for us as our ransom.

For the joy set forth before Him, Christ laid down His life, once for all, then took it up again;

Sin against sin, curse against curse, and death against death; Christ defeated all of them.

Through faith in Christ crucified and risen for us, God declares us righteous before Him;

“Beloved, ‘It is finished!’ I am yours and you are mine,” Holy Spirit now and always remind us.
