Leonard Sweet says this of Frank Viola’s just-released book, Jesus Now: Unveiling the Present-Day Ministry of Christ.
“Frank Viola is a master at the discipline of historical context, and Jesus Now is a masterpiece that shows us how to ‘Christify’ our story—to move from an unscripted spirituality to a scripturally scripted identity.” ~ Leonard Sweet
Jesus Now contains 8 months of fresh material on the present-day ministry of Christ, answering the question, “What is Jesus doing NOW . . . since His ascension?”
The book explores every text in the New Testament on the subject, breaking it down into 7 ministries that Jesus has today:
Great High Priest * Chief Shepherd * Heavenly Bridegroom * Author and Finisher of our Faith * Builder of the Ekklesia * Head of the Church * Lord of the World

So my favorite Minnesota Twin is now an auhtor of Biblical topics?
Will have to check it out, thanks.
Hmmm. Promoting a book endorsed by Leonard Sweet? Interesting.
Sorry, didn’t realize the book was by Frank Viola. That explains it.
Not really.
I like Len Sweet…a very thoughtful and gracious brother.
Can you tell me more of Len Sweet, or how I can find out more, Michael?
Ryan,
The discernment police will tell you a bunch. 🙂
He co -wrote the “Jesus Manifesto” with Viola…and it’s an excellent book…and impactful book.
Sweet is a brilliant, out of the box writer who sees things from different angles than most…so he’s provocative and makes you think.
He’s not for everybody, but neither am I.
I’ve had some personal interaction with him and came away impressed…
What would the “discernment police” say about him? Is he unorthodox? Out of th
Sorry, computer issues!
Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with out of the box thinking. Just wondering what you know of him. His name appears to come up with the emergent church. I sincerely want to know.
Donner,
I guess that depends on how you define orthodoxy.
He’s good to go with me.
Whenever someone refers to the “emergent church” I just laugh…I don’t think such a thing exists except in discernment dreams.
How I define orthodoxy is pretty simple actually. The Apostles Creed sums it up.
Then Len is orthodox…
For what it’s worth, I asked a sincere question.
OK, thank you. I will read more about him and by him. I read Frank’s sample and considered it sound.
Donner,
You did fine…thank you for asking in the way that you did.
I like some of Leonard Sweet’s stuff. He is a complex guy who has given thought to a lot of issues.
He is the kind of guy who can talk Jesus … however, if you later give him a doctrine test, you may like him less.So I don’t give him the doctrines test and just listen to him.
🙂
