Anabaptists definitely won culturally in the eventual collapse of the hegemony of the state church. A whole cadre of ‘baptistic’ values got transferred into the culture that superseded the first wave reformers.

Yet again…Yet again, another one of our beloved has apparently tarnished the name of Christ. Same categories. Apparent academic fraud, financial shenanigans, or moral “lapses.” And yet again…the frustration is with myself, because I think that because I may find one’s teaching, theology or personality appealing that I “know” that person. I think it a lesson perhaps for all of us, to examine if we have an idol in our heart regrading some of our favorite pastors, authors and speakers.

I want to respect and learn from these men, and yet, so many, so, so many are bringing such reproach. My solution, a “resolution” to this, to guard my heart, would maybe look like listening and communicating more with people I am in a relationship with. My own, local pastors and teachers perhaps, versus reading or listening to sermons on You Tube, with people who I admire, yet, I really have no idea, who they are away from the microphone. It’s a sad commentary on what the body of Christ has produced. We have for too long I suspect, built and propped these people up for far too long, the gather alot of wealth, travel, publish, and maybe the reason many of them fall is because the become more of an identity, or <gasp?..merely a product, versus regarding themselves as a co-laborer that has some actual accountability with others.

real men don’t “virtue signal” … finally!
i figured this out early on (i suspect most of us do and then we tell ourselves, “who am I to judge?”) … watch any good salesman or politician they are experts at this (maybe some pastors also) and we buy it… until the deal is done… 🙂

There is a prejudice that in me that never leaves. There is a group of people that universally get my distrust. There is no repentance or healing within me for this even when sought. This list of articles worsens my problem. I am wrong, but ultimately without trust when encountering ‘leaders’ from this people. It is doubtful that it will get resolved in my lifetime. It is a despicable reality within me.

I think we all have that issue about some group…I recognize the same sin within me…
