Comments are open…carry on…
Love the “heresy” graphic/commentary by McKnight.
Something tells me Tuesday was rough on a lot of people. Bring on the Solstice too. I’m desperate for more light, and less rain.
BTW, where is everybody lately? Seems like Tue Linkathon comments are slower then normal.
Last week’s biggest church scandal story in my country…

Australian media are not allowed to report on it until subsequent court cases are finished. Front page of our paper said “A prominent Australian has been convicted of a terrible crime, and we’re not allowed to tell you about it”.
The link above and this one were just the first that Google listed. This one thinks he may not have committed the crime. Not mentioned was that an earlier trial failed to reach a verdict, with the jury leaning his way.

An appeal will follow. The archbishop convicted a few months ago (for failing to pass on historic abuse reports), got off on appeal, not proven innocent by any means, just that it wasn’t sufficiently certain that he was guilty.
The MacDonald case looks like it’s reached the point where it might move quickly towards a dethronement of some sort, remembering what happened with Driscoll. Once enough people have spoken, others feel able to follow. Bad news in most of these cases is that while the big name’s reputation is ruined, he still walks away a wealthy man.
One has to wonder what the Roman church will look like in ten years…
Michael,
Smaller… much smaller…
Ugh. Any woman who followed Mark Driscoll’s advice and took sexy shots or videos of herself to share with her husband is a colossal idiot. In this day and age of social media where a picture or video can travel the world in a nano-second, women (and men for that matter) need to know that pictures and videos like that can never be truly private and if they get leaked you’re SOL. I don’t care how much you may love and trust your spouse. Just don’t do it. The consequences are waaay to big if something goes wrong.
The more I contemplate the vulnerable, compromised position Driscoll was advocating his female followers put themselves in, as a matter of course, to please their husbands, the more I am blown away by his misogyny, irresponsibility, and lack of pastoral spirit.
j2,
I saw someone on Facebook yesterday talking about how Driscoll saved their marriage…and I contemplated becoming a Buddhist…
Meh. I give them 5 more years before they divorce.
Something interesting regarding the linked article about depression. We often quote anecdotal information about depression and the holiday season. In fact the CDC says that December is actually the lowest month for suicide.
All I know is that late November through December is a living hell for me and many I know.
The CDC says a lot of things that may or may not be true…
actually it was Phycology Today… https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/reading-between-the-headlines/201412/suicide-and-the-holidays
I came across the article while doing some research and was surprised by it.
I plotted my own demise shortly after Christmas.
