Well, now some Calvary Pastors are doing same sex marriage. Those that know Broderson saw this coming. Good job Brian! There’s no accountability at Calvary anymore. You can teach that we’re in the millennium, that there is no hell, and that God changed His mind on sexuality in the human race. “Our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever!” Chuck is still my pastor. I’m sticking with the Bible. It’s amazingly accurate!

Pastor Lew Phelps – Calvary Old Path

  2. Sj says:

Do have any proof of this?

  3. bob1 says:

    Sounds like fake news.

  4. John 20:29 says:

The makeup of the churches is changing… Or better put, has changed over my lifetime … we’ve always had a sprinkling of wolves among us, but they are becoming more blatant and gaining the serpent’s mindset… ” And hath Gid said?…. ”
This was clarified for me as I watched the simple, even naive, funeral service for Billy Graham today… God bless the focused, trusting simple minded among us… God make me more focused and trusting – ive got the simple minded thing down , i think. ?

  5. Michael says:

    “Pastor” Lew,

I have no knowledge of any CC pastor in favor of gay marriage.

Brodersen has explicitly said he’s opposed to it.

There never has been accountability in Calvary Chapel or you wouldn’t still be able to use the title “pastor”…

  6. Michael says:

    Mr. Phelps,

This comment of yours was a grave error.

    It has made me angry.

Are you now an official representative of CC Old Path?
    Do you speak for them?
Perhaps it’s time to examine this situation more closely…

  7. Chris Quintana Calvary Old Path Cypress says:

In case Lew doesn’t come back in to read the replies, and answer for himself, I will just make this simple. I am the pastor at Calvary Old Path in Cypress. We have no plants anywhere, we simply took our name from the premise of Jeremiah 6:16

If there are “official” statements from our church, they will be from me or one of our board members. I don’t know the people who are in the story, since I know little of the inner workings at Costa Mesa, ever.

Old Path is not a trademark, or some new offshoot of CC. As I survey the landscape, to think I would want to lead anything aside from Cypress, is the height of lunacy. Old Path is simply our name as a church. If others like the name, or have arrived at it some other way, I don’t own it.

  8. Michael says:

I don’t see anyone asking if you want to lead or plant elsewhere.

I do see someone claiming to represent your church making inflammatory statements without evidence…something you allow in your conferences there regularly.

I’m glad you disavow this one instance of slander against the brethren.

  9. Chris Quintana Calvary Old Path Cypress says:

    Michael, respectfully,

He doesn’t represent anything but his church. He looks to Chuck as an “old path” leader, thus he has that name. I’m not being difficult, I just want total and absolute clarity. He is not speaking for Cypress and to be honest I have only seen what others have posted on some facebook pages. This is not my fight, so I have no interest in the matter.

There is more to the story, and it can be found on Karl’s facebook page, or whatever social media he used, with his explanation of the ceremony. I do not know him and I would assume you would need to in order to view his reply to the dust up. I am sure there is a way to trace down the link, if you are so inclined, but that is a different matter.

I simply wanted to deal with the Old Path matter, since it is assumed he is from our church, he lives in another state entirely and he has his church there.

  10. Michael says:

Ok, I tracked the story down.

The pastor involved left Calvary Chapel some time ago and is no longer affiliated with the group.

This FACT will be of little interest to Lew Phelps.

  11. John 20:29 says:

there is something in people (some people, not all) that seems to search for something in other people and organizations to despise… all it takes is hearing a rumor and they’re all out against this bad thing that they’ve uncovered and ready to march into hell for their delusional heavenly cause
and how sad it is to think that people, even God fearing people, will do this

  12. Michael says:

The fact that Phelps has refused to respond tells you everything you need to know about his character.

  13. John 20:29 says:

praying for the preacher from Idaho (if i have the right man)… Lord, let him rise above the rumors and live in truth
perhaps, his days are disorganized and he relies on others for input on things such as he mentioned and that is alright, if he can correct a mistaken conclusion loudly and publicly and quickly

  14. Martin Luther's Disciple says:

A good debate from a couple of weeks ago – Bart Ehrman vs Mike Licona

    Are the Gospels historically reliable?

  15. Jean says:

    More from the Pope:

“The decree said Francis wanted the devotion to ‘encourage the growth of the maternal sense of the Church in the pastors, religious and faithful, as well as a growth of genuine Marian piety’ .”

  16. bob1 says:

A beautiful Lenten meditation on the uniqueness of Jesus and His work on the Cross, from John R.W. Stott:

“I could never myself believe in God, if it were not for the cross. The only God I believe in is the one Nietzsche ridiculed as “God on the Cross.” In the real world of pain, how could one worship a God who was immune to it? I have entered many Buddhist temples and stood respectfully before the statue of Buddha, his legs crossed, arms folded, eyes closed, the ghost of a smile playing round his mouth, a remote look on his face, detached from the agonies of the world. But each time after a while I have had to turn away. And in imagination I have turned instead to that lonely, twisted, tortured figure on the cross, nails through hands and feet, back lacerated, limbs wrenched, brow bleeding from thorn-pricks, mouth dry and intolerably thirsty, plunged in Godforsaken darkness. That is the God for me! He laid aside his immunity to pain. He entered our world of flesh and blood, tears and death. He suffered for us.”

  17. bob1 says:

Hopefully no one on here will have any “theological” problems with his statement…I guess you never know. 🙂

  18. Michael says:

    Good stuff…

  19. Michael says:

More thoughts that Billy Graham’s death brought…

Graham was not a theological sophisticate…not even close.

Does anyone seriously doubt he’s in the presence of Christ?

Wesley and Whitefield were on greatly different theological journeys.
    Calvin and Luther.
    Menno Simons and Spurgeon.

All in heaven, all with massive theological differences,

If the end result is the same for all who believe…why such strife over the differences now?

  20. bob1 says:

One thought: True, Billy wasn’t a theological sophisticate…but he was wise and humble enough to get answers from those better qualified than him. What traitd today’s Xn
    “leaders” need!

  21. John 20:29 says:

With Stott, i also confess that it is the God who died a humiliating, excruciating for us that brought me to Faith… repentance came afterwards

  22. bob1 says:

Another cool thing about Billy — he was a learner. He studied a lot, not just Scripture but world events, etc. He said near the end of his life that if he had it to do over, he would’ve spent much more time studying and less preaching. Neat.

  23. Pastor Lew Phelps says:

FAKE NEWS? As far as the truths on the gay marriage try asking John Henry of CCCM who it was that performed this homosexual wedding. Where you’ll find out that it was his ordained son. Kevin Walding has the picture on his site. Or ask for files on Michael that are still in Costa Mesa’s vaults. Interesting stuff Mike! I’m sorry about your old job and having to close down the blog.
Calvary Old Path is not another offshoot. I liked the name for obvious reasons. I have many Calvary pastor friends that feel the same way. Chris and I are of the same type. He didn’t ask us to adopt the name, we chose it for ourselves. As far as my ordination I’m still ordained from Chuck. On my ordination papers there are three names. Chuck Smith, Oden Fong, and Dan O’Neil. It was a blessing to work so long with Pastor Chuck at CCCM. We drove often together and became close. I talked with Kay Smith two weeks ago as we prayed together. Chuck Smith and I sat on Chuck Missler’s board together for years. I was a board member of different Calvary ventures.
Chuck invited me to become affiliated again. (witnesses) It was tempting because he’s always been my pastor, it’s just that I saw who was coming up in the ranks. I’m not about to be under someone who has taken a large fruitful church, and can now barely get a congregation that that might only match the staff and the choir. Good job Brian. It would be better for him to stay at his various sleepover suites in Europe. Pictures tell a thousand words, huh Michael! Watch out for Dave Rolph!!! He’s got all kinds of good info. He helped set up the vault.
Everyone should have a friend like Pastor Chris Quintana. He has never once asked us to be part of anything. We just happen to have the same mindset. CC Cypress is their own church, and our church is our own as the Lord leads. And Michael, I’m not affiliated with Calvary Chapel … THANK GOD! What a house of horrors it’s become. Just ask the violated children. And John Henry’s clash with the Newport Beach Police Department would be a fun thing to watch you guys to debate. NOT FAKE NEWS! There’s more info on Broderson at the NBPD!
Pastor Chuck was concerned about Brian’s gay agenda. Just look at his son-in-law’s (Michael Smith’s) face book, or his own son (Brandin or Brandon Broderson’s) face book. Pictures you wouldn’t place on this site. I think you’ve been played. But there are those of us that would embrace you. The truth will set you free. It’s Brian that gave out Gender Neutral Bibles at a pastor’s conference just last year. Isn’t there enough smoke to realize there’s a fire?

Michael, I believe that you truly love the Lord. There are great things on your site. But there are huge things that I’d love to discuss with you personally. Let me know how to exchange cell numbers and have a good discussion where we can hear each others hearts. Sorry, I don’t want to give my number out over this site. And sorry this took so long. I was ministering to those who call me their Pastor.

    In All Loveliness and Blessings,
    Pastor Lew Phelps
    Calvary Old Path

  24. Michael says:

Phelps, you are a liar, a snake, and an accuser of the brethren.
Get the hell off my site.

  25. Michael says:

I simply don’t have the opportunity or energy to speak to this tonight.
Be assured that I will, however.

  26. John 20:29 says:

I never take people who hint at special kniwledge of the malicious and scandalous seriously… I have seen way too much attitude in my lifetime to bother

Brother Phelps, there are things i could tell about you, your ministry and your family that will turn stomachs, but i wont do that here… ?

    How does that feel? Fair?

Tomorrow is Sunday, lets make it a day of rest – concentrate on what is holy and good reports for all…. just sayin

  27. Kevin H says:

    Lew Phelps,

Judging by your commenting just here and also a couple other times that I remember you having commented in the past, I would hope that there are very few who you actually minister to as a pastor. Your conduct here has been nothing short of sinful, disgraceful foolishness. Your slander is so incoherent that it is difficult to even tell what the actual slander is. When pastors conduct themselves like you have here, it is disturbing and brings shame on the name of Christianity and Jesus Christ himself. As I stated in my first sentence, I would hope that there really are very few, who in your own words, you minister to as a pastor. Or greater yet, I would hope that you aren’t even a pastor and only delude yourself into thinking so and actually have no one under your care.

Chris Quintana: Since you have taken the time to come on this site to clarify the situation with Lew Phelps, I would think you would think you would want to say far more than just that Lew Phelps’ church isn’t your church and that any official statements from your church would come from you or board members. Phelps is claiming you as a friend who is of the same type and mindset as he, and also chose to name his church the same as yours. As a pastor who holds conferences and is apparently influential within the CC system, and also as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I would think you would want to repudiate this ugly and disjointed muckraking that is being associated to your name.

  28. Michael says:

    Thank you, Kevin.

Unfortunately, this filth will have to be answered…and I will, tomorrow.

  29. Martin Luther's Disciple says:

Great day at church – I love finishing communion singing the Nunc Dimittis

O Lord, now let Your servant
    Depart in heav’nly peace,
For I have seen the glory
    Of Your redeeming grace:
A light to lead the Gentiles
    Unto Your holy hill,
    The glory of Your people,
    Your chosen Israel.

    All glory to the Father,
    All glory to the Son,
    All glory to the Spirit,
    Forever Three in One;
    For as in the beginning,
    Is now, shall ever be,
    God’s triune name resounding
    Through all eternity.

  30. Jean says:

What is more remarkable: To behold our Lord and God wrapped in swaddling clothes suckling at the blessed virgin’s breast, or to behold Him according to His Word and promise in, with and under the bread?

A tremendous blessing then for Simeon and now for us!

  31. Chris Quintana says:

I’ll address a few things and maybe clear some things up. I know only as much as I read about this topic, which was limited. I will say again, i have no interest in this mess and seeing churches slide into things like who performs such weddings is what I expect in post modern church life. As a result I don’t dwell on it, since I expect corruption of this nature to increase. Should others seek to expose it, so be it, that’s for them to do.

It is a misconception to think I have an influential place in CC, in fact that is nowhere close to accurate so my “repudiation” is meaningless. I only posted yesterday to clear up the use of Old Path as the name for our church. What Lew uses for his name and what he does is up to him and his fellowship. I have spoken to Lew by phone, but we have not met. From what I can gather, since he spent time at Costa Mesa, I would assume we are doctrinally similar on the big things, but aside from that I don’t know, we have never discussed such things.

As for me repudiating what he said, believe it or not, I am not familiar enough with all of the details about this mess to comment. Going forward I have neither the time, nor inclination to do so. Aside from all of that, I am not sure what else you want.

  32. Kevin H says:

I am glad that you apparently have no interest in the troublemaking that Lew Phelps is trying to raise.

But from what I was saying before, it’s not a matter of what I want, but rather I was making a statement wherein I was expressing my surprise / lack of understanding that since you decided to make the effort to make clarifications, that you didn’t go further in your clarifications. I know if someone was spewing slanderous incoherent nonsense that not only gave the appearance as if it was coming from my church, but that he was also claiming me to be a friend who was of the same type and mindset on such things, I would choose to “clarify” far more than you chose to do.

I wouldn’t expect you to know or understand all the details that Lew was giving as they were very muddled and lacked much of any context for understanding. But statements like:

“Those that know Broderson saw this coming. Good job Brian! There’s no accountability at Calvary anymore. You can teach that we’re in the millennium, that there is no hell, and that God changed His mind on sexuality in the human race.”

“Good job Brian. It would be better for him to stay at his various sleepover suites in Europe. Pictures tell a thousand words, huh Michael! Watch out for Dave Rolph!!! He’s got all kinds of good info. He helped set up the vault.”

“Pastor Chuck was concerned about Brian’s gay agenda.”

…are reckless and malicious attempts at defamation. If things like this were being associated to my name and made to look as if I was in agreement with them, I would want to make it quite clear that I reject such scandalmongering and do not have any such similar mindset.

  33. Michael says:

Over the last 24 hours I have become a target of the same kind of malicious attack.
To say I’m stunned would be an understatement…the lies are every bit as evil and meant to destroy not only me, but those close to me.

I need to gather myself and I’ll be back.

  34. Jerod says:

I attempted to nail BB pretty hard here awhile back and Michael put me in in my place pretty hard (correctly so). So when I read something slamming BB that sounds like I used to I feel a necessity to defend.

Pastor Lew you are out of bounds, as, far, as I can tell. Maybe I’m the fool for buying into what could be his conservative schtick, but I’d rather err on the side of Grace. That seems like a lot of work if he’s a Jesuit papist with a transgender Marxist agenda.Wouldn’t you agree?

As I read this lame volly from the so called “pastor”, Lew Phelps of self proclaimed “Calvary Old Path” it strikes me that it is merely a gasping death rattle of an attention seeking self armored oafish knight looking for windmills to battle, definitely NOT worth your or anyone’s time or attention as it’s a mere distraction from your truly good focus on Jesus, serving His church, your family, friends, neighbors and the strangers among you in your community who need and will immediately benefit and give glory to God for your love and attention.

Let the jackass bray, don’t get distracted and instead be about making the Kingdom of God a tangible reality for every life you touch!

  39. Pastor Lew Phelps is My Pastor and from personal experience know he is deeply in love with Jesus, PERIOD! Now, before I’m asked to leave I will personallt “get the Hell off your site. God Bless your continued search for the Truth.

  40. Michael says:

    Mr. Baugh,

You have chosen wisely…to get the hell off my site.

  41. Em says:

R.E.Baugh… Your prayers been answered retroactively… God DOES bless the search for TRUTH here – THE Truth. 😁
Get the hell off? Guess you just might fear truth, not always “nice” – truth is sometimes severe and hurtful

  42. directambiguity says:

“in love with Jesus” ?!? That’s not right the way we use the term.

  43. Richard E. Baugh says:

Only someone with a contentious heart would argue that way.
