Thank you for sharing this, I have wondered what it would look like.
I’ve often wished our own services would move towards a more traditional and reverent setting. My own church has become too casual, which doesn’t lend itself very well to reverence IMO.
The only thing missing from the video was musical offerings – to me, that is part of every service. The narration did mention where the hymns could fit in. The organ pipes were visible, and I kept waiting to hear them.
In most Anglican services, especially on Sundays, there is always music. This showed a simple stripped down service of Holy Communion. Owing to my serving in urban parishes/cathedrals I celebrated a eucharist like this on an almost daily basis for over a decade…
I’d also like to see the Book of Prayer used in my (Lutheran) Church. Is that strictly an Anglican tradition?
I especially liked the “Invitation to Confession” (correct name?). Really resonated with me.
We got a note from the school district today. There have been three recent instances of people in cars trying to lure kids walking to school into the cars. Local PD was made aware. This week, there was a lockdown at the elementary school. An unauthorized adult was on campus and “unresponsive.” Classrooms locked down and cops were called to remove the suspect. Part of me hates to talk to the kids about such things, and somehow I don’t think “turn the other cheek” applies here when people target children.
So the media and the White House have created more border hysteria screaming about another caravan of migrants coming out of Central America.
Three days ago I posted the reality of this “invasion”.
“Mexico will impede the migrants in the caravan from entering where they plan to, between Tecún Umán, Guatemala and Frontera Hidalgo, Chiapas, if its members do not have the correct paperwork in order. They won’t even make it to Tapachula. Or maybe they will — as internees at the Siglo 21 INM detention center there.”
That is exactly whats happened.
These people are not only no where near the U.S. border, they have very little chance of getting to it to apply for refugee status.
Now…ask yourself how I knew what was going to happen and the right wing websites and the government didn’t.
The answer is that they did know and chose to mount a propaganda mission anyway.
What else have they lied to you about?
You nailed it.
I was a bigot beyond belief before my first trip to Juarez.
It took about fifteen minutes to cure that permanently…I knew that if it was my family you would have to kill me to keep me from going over the line.
Mark my words…the next step in this process is justifying unspeakable violence against these people…the people are being prepared to accept such…
“The answer is that they did know and chose to mount a propaganda mission anyway.
What else have they lied to you about?”
It is great “get out the vote” propaganda to attract Trump’s base. It’s all fear driven. Meanwhile, after the biggest corporate and aristocrat give away of my lifetime has just swollen the budget deficit and debt, plans are being drawn up to degrade Social Security, Medicare, and healthcare options for the poor. It’s all out there, but the smoke screens make it almost impossible for many people to see through it.
Yes to all of the above.
I hate writing this stuff…it does little good.
It does make me wonder what else is pure propaganda that perhaps I have imbibed on subjects where I’m ignorant.
I am deeply concerned, however that we will soon see wholesale slaughter of Central Americans heading this way at the hands of the Mexican Army cartel…there are thousands already “missing”…
“Everywhere we should stick to just the simple, natural meaning of the words, as yielded by the rules of grammar and the habits of speech that God has created among men; for if anyone may devise ‘implications’ and ‘figures’ in Scripture at his own pleasure, what will all Scripture be but a reed shaken with the wind, and a sort of chameleon….
“What has befallen the new prophets of our own day in respect of Christ’s words, ‘This is my body’? One finds a figure in the pronoun ‘this,’ another in the verb ‘is’, and a third in the noun ‘body’! I have noticed that all heresies and errors in handling the Scriptures have come, not from the simplicity of the words, (as almost all the world tells us), but from not regarding the simplicity of the words, and from hankering after figures and implications that come out of men’s own heads.”
– Luther, Marin, The Bondage of the Will, translated by Packer and Johnston, p. 191-92.
People living in horrible environments raises so many questions for me with regard to our national obligations…. China is not conducive to a good life for their common man… do we tell those who suffer oppression there, come to America, there is room for all? North Korea? I know Egypt welcomed the Israelites, but it didn’t end well… The melting pot could well become a melting pot
Is nationalism evil? It wasn’t … Now it seems to be… But our God IS the God of the past, present and future and things will unfold according to His plan – His ultimate planned end
I have no problem with any Christian answering the call of his conscience… Gid knows the heart
As I’ve said on multiple occasions the key is to help make people able to survive where they live.
The U.S. has been involved in so many covert operations in Mexico and Central America that backfired and helped create these hellholes that I believe we have an obligation to engage with issue honestly.
The bigger question is the one I already asked…how can a nobody in the Oregon woods know how this caravan will be dealt with and not those reporting on the “invasion”?
I’ve watched this for 10 years now…lie after lie…to what end?
To what end, indeed, Michael… People with power are seldom good people… I think our Lord affirmed that when he visited earth…
I know that my Latino neighbors up here would fight to preserve this Republic… but i think (think, not “know”) that there is a serious move in progress to destroy nationalism and within it must be the destruction of this Republic – their weapon of choice is – IMV – chaos…. trouble is, i don’t know who “they” are… At keast not with any certainty
Follow the money is usually reliable, Michael… I agree with that, but this time it may go deeper… As i said tho i have no special knowledge… It just appears that politics has gotten too big to control by vote and the alternatives are unthinkable
… Think i’ll go outside and see if i can find a warm spit to sit in
God keep
Oh gee whiz… Re: my 12:39 on the 20th… I do not sit in spit. ?
A warm SPOT in the sun… cool clear air and warm sun on my back… it was a God blessed hour and then i did some yard clean-up helped by Nikii the neighbor’s new cat… I guess that i should thank God that i can still do that. ?
H.U.G. … You are wrong about us born again, evangelical Christians… most of us are praying that it doesn’t come to bloodshed …
there a lot of jus who wonder about the spontaneity of this event, however…
now this is a bit done by Mark Lowry, so be forewarned and don’t click on it, if the guy is offensive to you, but somebody just sent me this and, being evangelical, i found it funny and today laughing and a merry heart are good medicine

For those wondering what a traditional Anglican Service might be about, this is an excellent introduction –

Owen,
It’s Anglican…but we have room for you… 🙂
I consider the Book of Common Prayer to be a treasure for all Christians, and not just for Anglicans, though it’s “synched” for them…
Thanks Michael!
So where is the church in the video?
Owen,
I’m not sure…
Owen
It is a parish in the UK. Here are all the videos sponsored by the Prayer Book Society…

Victor,
When people target children any and all measures are appropriate to protect the kids.
“What else have they lied to you about?”
I don’t trust any media anymore.
I can tell you if it was me and my family in the same situation as these folks we would be in that caravan too. My heart breaks for them.
Joel,

good morning big brother, Jean and JoelG…..hope you are doing well.
Very well, Dusty. And you?
Luther’s rule for interpreting Scripture:
“Everywhere we should stick to just the simple, natural meaning of the words, as yielded by the rules of grammar and the habits of speech that God has created among men; for if anyone may devise ‘implications’ and ‘figures’ in Scripture at his own pleasure, what will all Scripture be but a reed shaken with the wind, and a sort of chameleon….

Thanks as always for keeping the prayer thread going…
I’m well Jean, thank you!
Thank you big brother and you are welcome!
Good morning Dusty 🙂
Praying for all of you to have a wonderful day. 🙂 ♡

Just my thoughts, tho… No special knowkedge. ?
I have a clearer explanation.
Who profits from the border hysteria?
Defense contractors and tech companies…by the billions.
I’m certainly not a nationalist, but I have no desire to see the destruction of the place I live.
