I thought Pete Carroll’s exit press conference was amazing to watch. I cried a couple of times. He wa honest, appreciative and inspiring…right after being relieved of his command. And he quoted Bud Grant, so there’s that. Carroll’s players loved him and often returned to play for him a second time.
I don’t follow Hibbs either. He came up here to North Idaho to speak at a super politically active church during COVID. We lost a few people due to his rhetoric. I’ve also heard he has a big movement of trying to Christians voted onto school boards.

prone to leave the God I love…” But today is also another day to simply say, “here’s my heart; O take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above.”
Podcast: Bema podcast has been very interesting and enlightening looking at the Bible from a Middle East/Jewish audience perspective.
Music: Skye Peterson (Andrew’s daughter) has a great album out. Also been getting into Drew Holcomb recently.

I’ve not listened to Hibbs recently— maybe I’ll try this latest one, as I’m acquainted with a few big fans. I also didn’t listen closely to the local CC sermon yesterday, but a couple people were concerned about one section, so I rewound and tried to transcribe. I’m wondering if any of you have heard something similar from more well-known CC leaders: (not an exact transcript)
“If you feel we have gotten off track, not focused on the work of the cross, or starting to divert into some side issue, come to us and say ‘hey, I’m a little concerned’…
This is important, too, as leaders or members in this body: If someone seems to be coming up with some stuff that’s maybe not what we do at CC, don’t gossip about them— don’t slander them— we can talk through that… If someone says ‘there’s this doctrine I really feel is essential, this part I hold so fast, and you guys don’t really teach or empathize it’— If it’s not something we really adhere to, I want to pray with them and try to find a church where they can grow and serve and be a part of. People don’t have to be a part of what we’re doing here.”
The people who pointed this out to me felt the elder was threatening the left boot of disfellowship toward anyone who brings up concern.
That’s not technically what he was saying, and maybe they were just slandering and gossiping—- but—-
And I didn’t even notice this within an otherwise good sermon. Once again my listening skills need improved. If I say “hey, I’m a little concerned” as we’ve been specifically invited to do, I’ll run up against non-negotiable non-essentials (they’re all spelled out in the “distinctive” book). If I talk further to my friends, I’m entertaining an accusation. So I talk anonymously to strangers (thank you all so much). I’m very much on the periphery so I don’t even have any standing to bring up concerns. Still I wouldn’t mind hearing any other examples of the “if you don’t like it, shit up and leave”.

Since I’m equipped with: no sense of calling, no annointing, no ordaining, little investment of time or emotion, and some knowledge of history, I think I’ll help my friends, and maybe others by being for them like an “elder board” is for a mini-Moses. Listen to them without trying to give info or advice, and try to be a buffer to protect them. This may mean I’ll bring up some concerns, as if they’re mine alone, with church leaders despite having no hope of “success”.
Lately, my musical attention has been going primarily to Rick Ross, a rapper who I venture the guess none of you know, or would appreciate at all. He yells obscenities that make sailors blush, but he does so in such fluidity that he has quickly become who I consider to be the greatest lyricist alive, blowing the doors off of even my former favorite of 20 some years, Chuck D. I don’t know why I love rap, but I do. Can’t stand country, so there is something in my DNA that prevents me from being white enough to… meh, never mind.
Like Shawn, lots of Pink Floyd. Always Pink Floyd. The album Animals has been running through my head a ton lately. Again, don’t know why, but my DNA prevents me from stripping the political content from the… meh, never mind.
I used to listen to a ton of podcasts, but streaming plain old radio shows these days has become almost religious. I have a favorite morning show that I specifically charge my phone for, always enough so that I can stream the entire 4 hour show, and maybe a few smaller shows afterward. There is something about plain old radio talk shows that got into my DNA…
Practically no other rock band mastered getting ultra-long song forms to work the way Pinkfloyd did. I was listening to Animals last year for the first time in years and “Dogs” holds up beautifully It’s the highlight of the album for me, at least.
Last year was the 50th anniversary of the releases of Pinkfloyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and Stevie Wonder’s Innervisions. 1973 was an amazing year in music just based on those two albums alone. 😀

I wish I could bill somebody for the time spent.
He has to keep people ready to fight so they keep coming back for more…he won’t bother to tell them to what Jesus actually says.
He has to completely convince them to listen to no one but him so he denigrates every “media” outlet.
He’s a cult leader.
I can go point by point, but I’d rather brush the cat…
So how does a guy like Hibbs preach through the Sermon on the Mount? It seems to go against so much of what he professes.
