I enjoyed Heilig’s The Apostle and The Empire quite a bit a few years ago. This one should be fun based on what I’ve read from him so far.
In other news, for those who didn’t catch it, Internet Archive got a DDoS attack and a hack lately. The WayBack Machine was done and Internet Archive was done. Advised not to use it for a while until things get resolved.
It’s a reminder to me of a pattern I had in my watchdog blog years of putting everything that seemed relevant down in print for the record. For those who presume The WayBack Machine is always around to archive stuff there’s robots.txt to deny access to archiving and Internet Archive itself has been vulnerable to hacks and judicial rulings. If it needs to be spelled out more bluntly and plainly, DO NOT JUST ASSUME IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE.
I’d say that people visiting Wenatchee The Hatchet be careful of clicking links to marshill.com sites and archive.org for the moment. I tried to make sure the relevant statements are there to be read both to preserve a record and concede the reality that no resource on the internet is “forever”.
But back to the Heilig title, I’m excited to start reading it when it’s available later this month.

As an older brother in the church, I contemplate saying something I see as a concern (4/10 concern level, but with the potential to be higher over time) to a fellow believer….
however 2 others folks of somewhat similar age took comments poorly…1 fairly aggressively, 1 fairly passively….what should I do?!?!

As I help young men, I find myself in consternation about 2 local churches that appear to say NOTHING about fornicators in their mega churches….I won’t give names of said churches, let’s just say I want to SKIP that….
Does this bother anyone else? I
gotta say, this mega church model where specific sins, especially a biggie like this, are not addressed sure hurts the teenage males that attend those churches….if you can’t say it loud and clear, how will those young men take a stand where and when it’s important?

I heard the wife of a former Congressman who’s from Central America say that this is Banana Republic behavior.
First, I’m interested because I’m a minister, and i serve under a senior pastor and I’m curious for us.
I don’t see either of us blowing it like other guys featured here, but that could be an unhealthy estimation, no?
Second, I’ve helped raise up several ministers, and only 40% still serve as ministers….and it’s painful.
Third, we talk about the pastors who get caught doing bad stuff here….and some of them like Tullian T and whoever the NYC Hillsong guy is just won’t give it up….
Fourth, I’m so curious and I get lots of answers here…sometimes. And this seems to be a subject not written about.

Heard this from Alistair Begg this morning, in a message on idolatry.
