Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense of the United States of America, approvingly reposts a video of fundamentalist, sexist, enthno-nationalist Christian pastor Doug Wilson in which Wilson says, among other things, that women should not be allowed to vote, since their function is to breed, and that enslaved persons and enslavers sometimes had caring relationships. For him, and for many other Christian men, Christianity is a way of making their own sexual and social inadequacies a problem for other people to deal with. MAGA has empowered and affirmed these Christian men, many of who are pastors, mainstreaming their views in a promise to return to an era when anyone other than men like these had little to no social and political power to make choices of their own. That’s what Make America Great Again means, and it’s the antithesis of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I learned today that a woman who is a member of my Episcopal parish, and who has been a legal immigrant to and resident of the U.S. for 25 years, was detained by ICE on August 4. She has been very active in the parish, including in the community meals kitchen, and is widely known and loved. I’m trying to pray through my anger.
Hi everyone. Yesterday I visited what I know to be a very progressive church. More progressive on politics than doctrine, but they are LGBTQ affirming. This church was actively involved with the No KIngs march back in June.
I only knew there inclusivity stance from the website. The service was very good, and had both a time of confession and weekly Eucharist, so they are mildly liturgical. They are teaching from Jesus’s parables and they handled the Good Samaritan extremely well. The church had a library/bookstore with books by Dallas Willard, Brian Zahnd, Pete Enns as well as Richard Rohr and Rob Bell.
I live in an areas so dominated by CC, John MacArthur and stealth SBC churches (one word names like “Elevation”, “Generation”, etc), and all are wannabe megachurches. A progressive church is not my first choice, but the idea of one willing to take a stand against MAGA tyranny has appeal.

Make America great again?
She (America) never stopped being great.

My heart goes out to you and all that love your friend.
Keep praying…the weapons of our warfare…

Sounds fantastic Terry. I keep ending up in stealth conservative churches. I would love to find a much more liberal church.
