Had a good morning a church today. We presented our 5 yr Strategic Mission Plan to the congregation and the proposed budget for fiscal yr 14-15. Both are to be voted on by the congregation next month at the voter’s assembly.
Very busy taking care of my wife. She’s doing better and is eating a bit now. Until now I was never able to really begin to understand what so many of you experience(d) with ill loved ones. It simply doesn’t translate on a blog. We talk about heroes when there’s so many among us. Have a great weekend.
our landlord wants to sell his house(the one we are renting) on land contract….we don’t want to purchase it because it has too many problems and may not be up to code…so we spent the day driving around the area looking for rental property. found two houses-both look too small…but we found a wonderful antique dresser for cheep! All in all it was a nice relaxing day driving around the country side.
Dusty I just know you will find the perfect home. Put in your footwork in faith believing for God’s provision on your behalf.
It is always such a pain to have the carpet pulled out from under you by a property owner. The day will come when all of us will go to a place prepared for us by Jesus.
Until then happy home hunting, you certainly deserve a blessing IMO.

He was describing why the church purchased a defunct bank building and began advertising drive-through prayers. The cars drive up, roll down the window, and describe a worry or concern. The volunteer offers a prayer on the spot. The whole process takes a minute or two, and patrons remain anonymous. Christian Piatt, a Christian author, is not a fan: “It emphasizes the individual, which is counter to the fundamental message of Christianity. It also reinforces this idea of prayer being more like a vending machine. We drive up to the window, make our selection, put in our order, and get our request fulfilled. That’s a self-serving distortion of the Christian experience.” I believe Piatt hits the nail on the head. Your thoughts?”
As a United Methodist, I’m a little embarrassed. It’s the kind of seeker sensitive crap, only on steroids, that I see in many forms of the non-denominational evangelical movement.
My question to all of you: Was Jesus seeker sensitive? In my opinion, many forms of American Christianity are going so off track (in terms of framing the gospel) that it’s distressing. On the other hand, this is Christ’s body and He is sovereign, so I will trust in Christ.

I agree – the Bible says that no one seeks after God – hence there are no seekers to be sensitive to – it is a fraud category..
But it’s like the mushy stuff at an altar call. I was watching an evangelical video and this guy did like they all do when conducting an altar call.
The music has been heavy beat all service… until the altar call, then it’s just a soft solo while the pastor cajoles and pleas with people to look inside themselves and asks them to make a decision for Christ. The funny part was that most of his sermon / teaching was really just a bunch of personal antidotes and none about Jesus, except a few honorable mentions. But, he speaks softly, has people closing their eyes … well, you know the routine.
So why is it done that way – are newbies really that soft and fragile?
Now, if he had done his job and had preached Christ – and I mean as the subject of the message – perhaps it wouldn’t be like pulling teeth.
Do you know what i would like to see – and I don’t know why altar call people don’t do this – the pastor states boldly “look, I just spoke to you for 45 min about Jesus Christ, his sinless life, his death and his resurrection for you, for your salvation – so WHOSE IN?”
