Prayer & Praise 10/10/21
COLLECT
O God, our refuge and strength, true source of all godliness: Graciously hear the devout prayers of your Church, and grant that those things which we ask faithfully, we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
AMOS 5:6-15
Seek the Lord and live,
lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph,
and it devour, with none to quench it for Bethel,
OÂ you who turn justice to wormwood
and cast down righteousness to the earth!
He who made the Pleiades and Orion,
and turns deep darkness into the morning
and darkens the day into night,
who calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out on the surface of the earth,
the Lord is his name;
who makes destruction flash forth against the strong,
so that destruction comes upon the fortress.
They hate him who reproves in the gate,
and they abhor him who speaks the truth.
Therefore because you trample on the poor
and you exact taxes of grain from him,
you have built houses of hewn stone,
but you shall not dwell in them;
you have planted pleasant vineyards,
but you shall not drink their wine.
For I know how many are your transgressions
and how great are your sinsâ
you who afflict the righteous, who take a bribe,
and turn aside the needy in the gate.
Therefore he who is prudent will keep silent in such a time,
for it is an evil time.
Seek good, and not evil,
that you may live;
and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you,
as you have said.
Hate evil, and love good,
and establish justice in the gate;
it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts,
will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
PSALM 90:12-1
Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!
HEBREWS 3:1-6
Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, who was faithful to him who appointed him, just as Moses also was faithful in all God’s house. For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Mosesâas much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
MARK 10:17-31
And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, âGood Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?â And Jesus said to him, âWhy do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: âDo not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.ââ And he said to him, âTeacher, all these I have kept from my youth.â And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, âYou lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.â Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, âHow difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!â And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, âChildren, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.â And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, âThen who can be saved?â Jesus looked at them and said, âWith man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.â Peter began to say to him, âSee, we have left everything and followed you.â Jesus said, âTruly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.â
How hard it will be for those who focus on material gain….

Tomorrow is opening day of deer hunting up here.. We have never seen this many hunters – absolutely inundated, non stop parade of trucks and travel trailers (all the campgrounds are closed)
Praying no one gets hurt, nor any animals. . Someone was shooting a rifle at the back of our property at 5am this morning – still dark out – illegal! ! !
Praying with you, Em…
Thank you, Micael. My daughter is going in to work early tomorrowv(5 am) and I’m concerned that this crowd of hunters are not all really good hunters.
One year there was a hole in the side of one of the horses and we found an arrow on the paddock…. Luckily horses have a tough hide, but who would mistake a black and white horse for a deer? ? ?
God keep
I stay out of the woods during hunting season…too many idiots with firearms…
Of your charity, pray the repose of the soul of Colin Powell…
“THE LIVING CHURCH does not usually review the memoirs of retired generals, but Colin Powell’s story must be an exception. The former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff tells an engrossing story of a climb from poverty in the South Bronx to senior positions in the White House and the Pentagon.
Although his autobiography has drawn a wide readership, few reviewers have noted the general’s lifelong devotion to the Episcopal Church. The son of Anglican immigrants from Jamaica, Gen. Powell grew up in St. Margaret’s, the neighborhood parish where he served as an acolyte and came to love the splendor of Anglo-Catholic liturgy. “The higher the church, the closer to God; that was how I saw it”
