Prayer & Praise: 12/19/2021
Fourth Sunday of Advent
COLLECT
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and as we are sorely hindered by our sins from running the race that is set before us, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
MICAH 5:2-5
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
from ancient days.
Therefore he shall give them up until the time
when she who is in labor has given birth;
then the rest of his brothers shall return
to the people of Israel.
And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great
to the ends of the earth.
And he shall be their peace.
PSALM 80:1-7
Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.
Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us!
Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved!
O Lord God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers?
You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure.
You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves.
Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved!
HEBREWS 10:1-10
For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,
“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;
in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”
When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
LUKE 1:39-56
In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
And Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.
For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;
he has brought down the mighty from their thrones
and exalted those of humble estate;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
as he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.
My grandparents had six children – the families always gathered at my grandparents on Christmas Eve for a pot luck dinner.
Grandpa always read the Christmas story out of Luke – did he read Mary’s song also? I think he did. Then everyone went home for their Christmas day family time.
Thanks for the.memory jog, thanks much.

Duane Arnold – A friend’s youngest son committed suicide on Sunday morning. I spent the afternoon with them today. Please pray for the Lakes family…
Captain Kevin – I’ve had marketplace insurance for the last 6 months. Been using it and was able to meet my deductible. Lots of tests with no concrete answers yet. If I want to keep my insurance (and I do), I need to renew by the 15th of Dec.
The catch: I’ve gained some new music students, so my income has gone up a bit. Since “Affordable Care Act” is based on income, my new premium and deductible have tripled! Has my income tripled? Not even close. I’m not sure what to do. I need more medical care, but with or without this insurance, I cannot afford it.
EM – My daughter (a Christian conservative) was re-elected to her city’s Council yesterday – pray for her as she is in a town bordering a community of hard over leftists. I don’t trust them and neither does she…
I have heard some rather scary stories of Seattle pressing their neighbors to accommodate the Seattle viewpoint — UPDATE: her opponent was a woman from Vietnam (sp?) and my daughter has received a death threat already – via Email, local police have been notified.
Duane Arnold – pray the repose of the soul of Colin Powell…
Duane – My nephew, Ray Michael, was placed on life support with no prognosis of recovery owing to his lung damage. Prayers for a peaceful end…

Xenia – daughter passed away just before Thanksgiving …Father have mercy on Xena and her family, give them comfort and peace.
dusty…thank you for adding prayer for Xenia and her family. I am sure keeping them in my prayers.
We can take Greg off the list for prayer. Sadly, he did pass away.
Also, could we add prayer for me? I was diagnosed this year with two painful and rather debilitating autoimmune conditions. Of course, I pray for healing, but barring that, an effective treatment regimen is something for which I’d be so grateful.
oh, Linnea, I’m so sorry. You have already been going though so much. And so many health /pain issues… I will for sure be praying with you and for you. love you.
Amen to dusty’s 4:35pm
Thank you again dear dusty for keeping this prayer list going – God keep
