The incessant yowling startled me awake.
Something must be wrong with Miss Kitty…
No…Miss Kitty is asleep next to me, with a paw on my face and a claw in my nostril.
After carefully removing said claw, I raised up enough to see that it was 3:30 in the morning.
The yowling and mewling commenced at a higher volume as the yowler saw me stir.
I peered outside and identified the perp.
He is a big, orange, Maine coon cat, a stray that we’ve been feeding regularly.
He is of a very kind and timid disposition, a very decent sort of fellow.
Except at 3:30 in the morning.
“Go away and be quiet…I’ll feed you in the morning”, I barked.
He must have thought I said “I’ll be glad to feed you now”, because the yowling intensified.
Miss Kitty became angry that the felicity of her slumber had been interrupted and hissed at him.
I tried to return to sleep, so the yowler walked in the room so I could hear him more clearly.
I threw a sock at him.
“Go away orange cat! My cat and I are asleep”.
More yowling.
I gave up.
I went to the kitchen, prepared a bowl of food, and served him.
He buried his face in the dish as I went back to bed
I fell back to sleep…and the yowling commenced again
He had finished eating…but he hadn’t been petted.
He wanted to be loved as much as he wanted to be fed.
I obliged him for a few minutes, then this passage came to mind;
“Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’?I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.”

Sleep had been hard to come by as I laid awake many nights worrying.
Peace fled from me and sleep with it.
Asking was for people who don’t know how to worry properly.
We all need loved.
We all need “fed”.
Ask.
Seek.
Knock.
Yowl.
It seems to work for cats…

That was the original plan.
I still think that each one of these could be a children’s book on their own…but I’ve never found an illustrator who wanted to risk doing work that may not pay off.
Publishing illustrated books is very expensive as well.

One of my personal soap boxes is how much I dislike most of the typical christian materials for kids….. This and your other stories are a much better way to teach the Life…
Speaking of asking, seeking, knocking and yowling…
Please keep our beloved Blog Host in prayer today. He might not get around to mentioning it again, but please intercede for Michael. He’s seeing the doctor today for a consultation about his heart. Please pray for healing, be it through medication or surgery or divine repair. His “big heart” needs a fix-up.
my ability to make an application is stymied by the picture in my mind of Miss Kitty’s claw hold on Michael – now that is funny!
Lord, please moves the minds that administer the medical care to Michael to bless him today

It was interesting this morning for sure.
The bottom line is we’re going to do more tests.
If nothing else is found, my doctor wants to “wait until it’s failing” to do surgery.
The repair would require full open heart surgery and if I can maintain a decent quality of life he feels it best to wait until that is absolutely necessary.
I agreed. 🙂

You know it is actually no big deal in one sense. You know where your going if your earth pump stops.
But on the other hand it is an extremely big deal. You have a wonderful son here and a lot of people who do care about you.
I believe, like the Catholics, in what is called “soaking prayer.”
Most will pray for something and quit after a while.
Soaking prayer is soaking the issue at hand with a lot of prayer until we get an answer.
Once again I pray that every cell and fiber of your heart be made whole in the name of Jesus Christ.
We stand upon the statement “By His stripes we were healed.”
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
