TGIF
He is covered from head to toe with abcesses from fighting.
I’ve spent a lot of gross time medicating and cleaning up the raw wounds that take turns draining.
These are not wounds from combat with other cats, but from a raccoon or multiple raccoons.
The wounds are deep and the infections leave him tired and listless.
Because his grasp of English is minimal, he doesn’t seem to understand what I tell him as I try to clean him up.
“This isn’t your fight, my friend…”
He’s learned that fighting with the other cats here is not good or profitable, but those raccoons…they provoke him.
They steal food and snacks left for the other cats and when they see me they stand up and hiss at me.
Disrespectful curs…
I believe Smokey thinks he’s doing what’s right and noble, but he isn’t going to last long if he keeps it up.
The Big Smoke and I were laying on my bed last night and I tried to tell him again.
“This isn’t your fight, my friend…”
He looked back at me as if he understood…and something or someone said…
“It’s not yours either, my friend…”
I’m as tired and infected as Smokey.
Tired of the unending strife and infected with anger.
The current crises often leave me at odds with friend and foe alike as the common ground shrinks under our feet.
We act as if we no longer share a common language…we cannot hear or understand each other any better than Smokey can understand me.
Everyone thinks they are doing something good and noble, but none of us individually and the country together isn’t going to last long if we keep it up.
We had a pretty good night last night…Smokey and I fell asleep on the bed while Miss Kitty dozed in my chair.
He avoided the raccoons and I stayed off the computer.
Then at 4:00 this morning we were awakened by a cat screaming in distress…and Smokey bolted out the door to battle.
I’m headed over to Facebook…
Miss Kitty is still asleep.
One of us has some sense.
Make your own application…
Scripture: “We wrestle not against flesh and blood…”
Me: “Hell, yes we do! Somebody’s gotta set him straight…!”
Jesus: (eye-roll) “sigh…”
fil,
Exactly!
another fine post by Cat-man-due. thanks for the feline-inspired insights. your raccoon comments were spot on.
Wish you were a dog guy though. 🙂
fil,
Take it up with the cats… and thank you. 🙂
I walk my dogs twice a day and some routes take me through cat neighborhoods and others through dog-dom. The cat neighborhoods keep my Heeler-Border Collie’s hair up the whole time!
Taking something up with cats is the modern definition of futility. 🙂
Poor Smokey, i remember when my vet told me that a pack of raccoons had killed a German Shepherd…. We had a neighbor who thought they were sooo cute – she set food out for them…
We live in a world of good and evil and sometimes there’s no way to win… We’re overrun with gophers and a great big gopher snake has shown up…. My good is the gophers’ evil
I pray little Smokey makes it – he is a special little cat hero
He’ll be ok…he’ll learn eventually that he’s no match for the masked bandits…
That’s the way I feel too..like I’ve been fighting and I’m wounded and infected..thank God I have a Savior who cleans it all out, bandages my wounds and talks sense to my silly self.
Filberts @ 10:23…. Cat man due just hasn’t met the right dogs, they’re not all cat killers
I think my daughter as a problem. She, too, rescues cats, but has 4 bird feeders in her back yard…. Can one be both a bird and a cat lover? She also loves pitbulls (they’re very loving gentle dogs if raised right.. Otherwise ….
Nice to think about God’s creatures, including us, Mike E, instead of the satanic permeated world that we live in…
God does, indeed, heal
Focus, Em, focus.
I have steadily stepped further and further back from my emotional engagement from politics since 2009, in the early months of the Obama presidency.
I’ve tried to since March as well.
I still keep up more than most, but my heart isn’t getting jerked around.
My recent perspective: most Christians used to (mostly?) be too heavenly minded to do any political worldly good.
It’s impossible to think we as believers aren’t too far the other way: too worldly minded (in politics) to be much good to and in the kingdom of God.
Practically, Bible reading, some Zoom and occasionally real life (very cautiously worked out, in outdoor spaces) fellowship, with a hobby sprinkled in there occasionally have greatly increased my peace level.
Ohhhh and some really stupid humor on Youtube.
Just putting it out there.
PS. I am unfollowing, and in one tragic case blocking, people on social media who raise the drama level in unhealthy ways.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Live animal traps have been a life saver around our property. Squirrels and skunks here, but if it helps you, our blogmeister…
jtk,
We’ve got the aforementioned squirrels and skunks as well as raccoons, possums and the occasional fox.
More than a few orphans of all of the above that I don’t mind feeding.
We’re experimenting…Ol’ Smokey has been in the house the last couple of days with no issues. He loves being with me, so I’m hoping he’ll stay in and behave.
So far, so good…
