The Heart of God: Kevin H

If our driving thoughts of the president and other governmental leaders who we do not like are those of scorn and disdain, rather than thoughts to pray for their welfare and for them to lead our country well, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts of undocumented immigrants are that they’re “illegal”, an “infestation”, murderers, rapists and criminals of all kind, and ruining our country, rather than thoughts of compassion for how many of them are fleeing conditions of stark poverty, danger, and hardship, and joy that the mission field is coming right to us, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts of LGBTQ+ affairs and individuals are that they are destroying our culture and are enemies that need to be defeated, rather than thoughts of compassion and concern for those who are affected by and struggle with such thoughts and feelings and have long felt despised and ostracized by many in our culture, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts of people (primarily usually women) who share personal allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against our favored political and/or Christian leaders are that they likely have some agenda and suspicions that they are making false accusations and that we need to protect our admired leaders, rather than thoughts of concern that these people (again usually women) may have legitimately suffered excruciating painful and debilitating abuse, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts when seeing the sin of an unbeliever or somebody who we consider to not be part of “us” are to call out and condemn, while our driving thoughts when seeing the sin of an admired political or Christian leader are to excuse or forgive while blowing off any concerns of dealing with the consequences of the sin, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts of the Super Bowl are of conspiracy, psy-ops (whatever the heck those are), and hatred of certain individuals because of which presidential candidate they may support or for starring in commercials promoting vaccines, rather than thoughts of gratitude for being able to enjoy a game and food and gathering with family and friends, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts of America are that we need to take it back for God and that we need to preserve it as a Christian nation, rather than thoughts of thankfulness towards God for placing us in such a land where we are free to worship Him and live out our faith with little concern of real persecution, then we are failing to grasp the heart of God.

If our driving thoughts are with our own wants and desires and how we think things should be, then that is pretty much every one of us….. sinners who are in need of daily repentance and grace….. grace which is a big part of the heart of God.
