Jesus Christ, who we proclaim to be God, allowed Himself to be murdered by the ruling empire.
Many of His disciples, then and now, have done the same in His name.
They did so believing what Jesus said…“My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom”.
Jesus did not rally His followers to overthrow the kingdom, nor did Paul…because they believed what He said about the nature of His kingdom and how His kingdom would be established.
There is a growing subset of American Christians who believe that this is the time to take up arms to overthrow a “decadent” government and place “Christians” in power.
This, despite the fact that the entire New Testament and the teachings of Jesus oppose such an idea.
These men also believe that the standard for true Christian masculinity is the desire to force Christendom upon a democratic republic…even if a monarchy is necessary.
Those of us who believe Jesus in all His teachings are considered weak and effeminate.
In reality, we rest in the strength of the Son of God who said that victory comes through love and sacrifice.
Fighting and warfare are easy work compared to following Jesus who sacrificed himself in love and warned that our paths may be similar.
The essence of being a Christian is following Jesus wherever He goes and whatever He does…even if as Peter was told…He leads you some place you don’t want to go.

Like I’ve said here and elsewhere, they don’t want a democracy.
They want a dictatorship.
Red Letter words from the Bible – “My Kingdom is NOT an earthly kingdom.” Why aren’t more of Jesus’s actual words taught in church? Because it’s not what we have want to hear? Michael is right. Jesus is being crucified all over again in many U.S. churches today.
