XIV. Of Works of Supererogation.
Voluntary Works besides, over and above, God’s Commandments, which they call Works of Supererogation, cannot be taught without arrogancy and impiety: for by them men do declare, that they do not only render unto God as much as they are bound to do, but that they do more for his sake, than of bounden duty is required: whereas Christ saith plainly When ye have done all that are commanded to you, say, We are unprofitable servants.
Kind of dovetails off of last weeks article. The tone here is about people who parade their works. Tithe from their spice racks. Pray loudly in the public courts for all to see.
What do you think of the following statement? I think it is where folks get hung up. When I have done everything I should, I am still unprofitable.
Am i the only one that can’t pronounce “supererogation”? 🙂
can you say “more than duty requires?” 🙂 theology tries to exclude us, but we sneak in through the cracks anyway

What we have done in the past is turn humility into a spectator sport… instead of competing with our good works we compete with our rags as to who knows theirs are filthier.
BD, i like that observation … it seems to me that, if we could just concentrate on our First Love, that all the rest would fall into place … or so it seems … to me – dunno, tho, do i?
Em, I appears you Do know! 😉
it appears…
