Good Friday
“Good Friday is the great truth teller. It is the beauty and the horror of this world wrapped up in a single moment. We know suddenly that if even if God came down to earth, we would kill him. Every moment of mass suffering demands us to look again at our faith and our understanding of God and ask ourselves: does our faith hold up in light of what we now know? We need a faith that can look directly into the eyes of suffering and have something worth saying. Theologian Jurgen Moltmann said that anything we say about God needs to STILL BE TRUE if we say it within “earshot of a dying Christ.”
Kate Bowler
“Anything we say about God needs to STILL BE TRUE, if we say it ‘within earshot of a dying Christ. ”
Those words contain a very powerful Truth ! ! ! One we should carry with us every moment of every day!
Amen, Em…
I so love this. We can look at the suffering in this world and know our God suffered too. In the most violent, abusive, horrific way. He truly understands when we suffer. He’s been there. Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
Yes and amen. I “virtually attended” my first stations of the cross service on Friday at noon. What an impact that liturgy had on me and as I wrestled with my own sin juxtaposed with Christ’s suffering, I was reminded of Romans 7:21-25, and was flooded with humbling thankfulness for all God has done for us through Jesus.
