    Excellent analysis, Michael.

    Thank you, Neo!

  3. Phil N says:

    Nice job Michael!!

  4. Neo says:

I consider what Jesus said to the Church in Ephesus: Having “correct” doctrine and even overthrowing domineering leadership but not yet achieving and receiving authentic love. Repent and return to the first love. That’s what I am thinking of when I listen to your podcast.

So we are preaching the Gospel with our sermons but counteracting it with our lives in ministry.

“That makes me wonder how active the Holy Spirit is in one’s life…..” Wow!

I’ve often thought this in regards to Narcisistic Leadership….

  6. Michael says:

Thank you, Phil…you’re a good partner!
    Neo…very well said, my friend.

…..turning the wolf loose on the body. Phil N.

    True!

  8. Michael says:

    Neo,

I think that some have what the Bible calls a “seared conscience”…and can no longer hear.

  9. Neo says:

    Posted this on facebook….

“Mark Driscoll is showing himself to be a hireling and not a true shepherd. The hireling sneaks out the back door when times get tough rather than “man up” and face the music. Go ahead and step down…but do it like the “man” you always boasted yourself to be.”

  10. Linda Pappas says:

Totally Agree with Michael when he shared that our churches are practicing half a gospel, whereas, the repentant, reparation, and reconciliation process simply does not exist.

This to me, is the core issue of the apostate state which our church now knows.

So not only has MD failed the MH, MH has failed him. A Hollow Victory, indeed.

  11. Michael says:

Thank you, Linda…it is a sad state of affairs indeed.

  12. The Dude says:

The church in America in for a rough time in the years to come as long as the corporate model persists….sad….

  13. Babylon's Dread says:

This is indeed CORPORATE… little else
The market drove this… enough people were opting out.
He quoted the numbers all the time to vindicate his ways.
    The numbers were unsustainable.

Evangelicalism is indeed about charisma …but not Spirit charisma
Charisma of that type is marketability.

  14. Babylon's Dread says:

It really is a simple Bible lesson … live by the bus die by the bus. That is really the entire Driscoll matter. He will never have the voice he attained again. A shepherd beat the sheep and ran from the consequences. Yes he will do fine in life the man has so many gifts he could win at anything but you cannot beat the law of the harvest.

What you sow … grows and bears fruit.

    God is Not Mocked Dread

  15. Jtk says:

    Live by the bus….

    Wow

If someone would’ve told me years ago when I came here (after a certain surfer pastor met on a Sunday night, handing out a multipage q & a sheet on Calvary stationary, saying he in no way was officially associated with Calvary–which of course he returned to pastor a few days later) that I’d be listening to a “Calvin’s Corner” podcast, I would’ve said “no way!”

    But nonetheless, that was solid.

Praying for the MH and former MH who are hurting. I have a family like that I’m close with, and it’s having an obvious effect on them.

  16. WenatcheeTheHatchet says:

yep, do err on the side of too much detail in light of the content purging.

It’s interesting to see how today’s announcement about the BoE and BoO sending different messages may play out. This lack of coherency of message might be yet another bad sign that MH as a corporation is not likely to survive. When MD is announced as having not just resigned eldership but left the church then this puts him in the position of having opted out of a restorative/disciplinary process like Andrew did in 2012.

  17. The problem is, there is no restoration in the world of the independent churches of American Evangelicalism? What would Driscoll be restored to?

He had unfettered reign at Mars Hill – would he be restored to that… or is the process called “restoration” more of a fitting for a collar and leash?

  18. WenatcheeTheHatchet says:

MH would have to publish whatever the BoE’s plan was for us to know.

  19. I’ll go with the collar and leash – it is in the nature of all pastor of independent churches to work with no restraint (except as they would say – the Holy Spirit LOL)
