I’m not going to write about this at present, but perhaps later. The latest school shooting took place here in Indiana, in the community in which I had my office for over twenty years. The Middle School where it took place is less than a mile from where I worked. I know the principal of the school and some of the teachers. The students, terrorized this morning, are the children of some of my friends, acquaintances and clients. The police chief is a friend. The names of the injured have not been released…

How do we let this go on and on? I don’t know…

With respect, Dr. Duane, i don’t believe we have ever “let” this happen….
Once the fuse is lit, the dynamite will explode. It is less a matter of stopping the shooter than it is a matter of asking ourselves what is lighting their fuses? This, after all, is a new phenomena – at least in frequency….
It is somehow tied to resentment, despair and also some kind of denial of the real world…. Or so it seems to me…
Have we allowed our societal norms and standards to fall so low that our primal nature goes unchecked?
We moved around a bit when raising our children and i recall one neighborhood (slightly upscale) where the children were not monitored nor held responsible for their behavior. Long story short, 2 ended up in jail – serious crimes. So Are we denying what lurks in all of us? What civility is really all about? Do we blame the kid with the rock or do we blame the rock? That guy with the gun just may be the kid who got beaned with the rock and no one cared… Just random thots as i ponder this serious and heartbreaking phenomena.
    God give us wisdom.

Praying for God’s comfort and strength for Dr.Duane and his friends today.

I understand, but a middle school kid (7th or 8th grade) excuses himself from class and then walks back in with two handguns… something is very wrong…

Many thanks for your prayers, they are much appreciated.

Driver mowed down pedestrians in Portland, Oregon today as well. I’m not going to be silly and say “ban SUVs!” but it points to a serious mental and spiritual health crisis, the lack of respect for life.

I’m all for secure (from children) firearms laws. Unfortunately, what goes on in the home isn’t enforceable.

Long before my kids reach junior high, they will go into a new combo safe in the garage, out from the current keyed safe in the inside closet.

Anonynmous, i apologise, if my post reads as not seeing this horrendous problem as inflicting cruelty beyond description…. I am truly sorry for not being a better wordsmith at a time like this.

This age seems to be a hard transition for many juveniles… I recall the two girls who stabbed their friend to death to please slender man a few years back, then calmly left her body in the woods as they went on about their business… Even tho it is beyond me why the gun owner is not charged in these cases, i do not see guns realistically as the problem to be solved….

IMV we have a decaying civilization
God of grace and mercy give us wisdom… and courage of our convictions

Since it is open blogging.. I’ve been watching the Hawaii volcanic eruptions and i am uncomfortably impressed with what we’re sitting on…. Is it faith or denial that keeps the human race so calm? It is hot below us…. ?
