The Perfect Christian Study Starter Kit

Long time readers know that I get really excited when I find new resources to share with our community.

I get excited because I really do believe that the more people who have a real and vital relationship with Jesus and the church , the fewer societal problems we have and the better the chance for true human flourishing.

The problem I’ve had has been in culling down the resources to something resembling a Christian starter kit…the goal was to be able to say “get these two or three resources and you’ll be able to lay down a foundation for a lifetime of walking with Jesus.”

I finally think I can do that.

We reviewed “Christian Theology” by McGrath and Thomas earlier this month…it’s wonderful and the first resource.

I just received “The  Church History Handbook” by Holman and it was the missing piece of my hoped for starter kit.

To begin, the layout and graphics are beautiful.

The book divides church history into five eras and gives concise overviews of the people and doctrines that shaped the time.

It’s eminently readable and would work hand in glove with “Christian Theology”.

So there you have it…acquire those two books and along with a good study Bible and you will give yourself an excellent foundation and will become an informed theologian.

Everyone is a theologian…some are just better than others…

I spent a little while thinking about which study Bible to recommend…I collect study Bibles and cats.

While there are numerous ones to choose from I think that if you add the “NIV Study Bible” to those books you will be doing really well.
