Things I Think…
1. I got up to write yesterday morning and whilst browsing social media beforehand saw that many of my brethren believe that the government is creating hurricanes for some nefarious reason…and then I got back in bed…hiding is a reasonable response to cultural insanity…
2. FEMA has had to create a “Hurricane Rumor Response” page to try to deal with misinformation…few will read it and many who do will not believe it…because they want to believe that “they” are evil…
3. Now that many believe that all our institutions are corrupt and evil…what exactly do they want to replace them with? Societies cannot function without institutions and cannot survive this kind of division and hatred…
4. You may think that you’ll end up with some theocratic state run by holy white people…but history says you’ll get anarchy and revolution…despite our problems we actually have a good thing going here…some will figure that out too late…
5. It dawned on me that I’m at the age where the history I’m aware of is nothing more than a meme to current generations…meaning all the lessons learned during World War II and the Cold War mean nothing to many if not most…then it dawned on me that those lessons will have to be re-learned and that’s the saddest thing I know…
6. All the Christian virtues I was taught…love, peace, humility, honesty, etc…have been discarded in favor of simply despising the right people…this is both apostasy and anti- Christ…
7. I had to take Liam the Cat to urgent care yesterday…it was god awful expensive,but I’ve been entrusted with his care…I feel the same way about the Gospel…it’s very expensive in many ways to keep trying to preserve the real thing, but I’ve been given a trust…
8. Good piece here on the five types of evangelical political engagement….it’s lazy work to think all evangelicals are MAGA hats…
9. Every time I hear some poor soul say that a politician “shares their values” I’m reminded of a fellow I knew who claimed he had a girlfriend in Texas…who he never met, never spoke to, but did send money to…make your own application…
10. For most of my adult life I’ve been obsessed with trying to be conformed to the image of Christ despite any discomfiture and public opinion…it’s been worth it and I won’t stop simply because it’s out of fashion now…in the “church”…
The MAGA tech bros certainly aren’t coming to the defense of FEMA. Man they must be cynical. Just stand beside Trump as he repeats FEMA lies, blames migrants with “bad genes” for being given all the FEMA money and (exact quote) “some of them don’t even speak our language”.
I saw the headline about MTG’s comments about FEMA and about the Democrats influencing the development of hurricanes, and I almost choked on my coffee. i don’t understand how anyone can believe stuff like that, but maybe alien life forms really have taken our brains. At the same time, many of the people who believe this nonsense certainly want the government to rescue them after a bad hurricane/earthquake/fire. They just can’t have it both ways.
The same folks that hate the government and want to believe every evil thing…are the same people who will go apoplectic if you kneel during the national anthem….
4. Project 2025 will attempt to do it “right” this time…

Regarding Point 1, *sigh*
My buddy since we were teens enlisted in the US Army in 1995. He deployed to Haiti, Kosovo, Iraq (2x) and Afghanistan (1.5x), then finally to Djibouti after which he retired a Top Sgt, E-8. I’m surprised he made that rank due to his incessant complaints about the Army and now about our government. He’s still a DOD employee.
He sends me links… like about HAARP, thankfully not about chem trails though I’m sure he’s into that as well. I challenge him and shine him on. Last week, he told me 9-11 was an inside job. Really? Most of his life was spent being deployed by the government to kill brown people and he made a lot of money ($40k bonus to go to Afghanistan, e.g.) being a tool for them. I love the guy like a brother, but sometimes it’s hard to understand.
#2 Apparently Florida meteorologists are receiving death threats. This is unbelievably stupid. Really, there are no words….
My sister says forest fires are “monsters” and tells them to “go away”.
Which they do as they are finally extinguished.
I am a scientist/meteorologist and I can’t even tell you what I want to say and post on FB about these dumb-a** conspiracy theories and idiots that believe them.
In the past people who believed these things were put in mental institutions. Now they are voted into office and have millions of followers on social media.
Even those who should know better believe this crap.
It seems that once someone believes in a conspiracy theory, they leave themselves wide open to believe them all, no matter how illogical and asinine they may be.
#8 – I still consider myself evangelical. Definitely don’t wear a Maga hat. I’m more of a mixed bag of some of the other types.
CK, exactly – regarding the conspiracies. I too think that they just don’t think these things through, or the logical/illogical end result of such beliefs.
