I tried hanging out in the middle but I couldn’t maintain it for ever. Events have shoved me further to the right than I ever intended to travel. But there you have it.
I understand the point of the chart, but I don’t see the issue as being “too conservative.” I consider myself conservative.
I think that what some people view as conservative is nothing of the kind. I don’t see the following baked into the dogma of authentic conservatism: QAnon conspiracy theories (the only political candidates which promote it are GOP for some reason), anti-science worldview (why are GOP sources now promoting Herd immunity as a response to the pandemic?), the current president’s equivocation when it comes to racism and white supremacy, barbarism at the border, and executive overreach with executive orders? I would think conservatives would be compelled to speak out against such things
Yeah, I’ve heard various commentators saying that Trump has basically dynamited and destroyed true, classic conservatism. Not to mention the current crop of Republicans in Congress. I also think a fair number of conservatives have matriculated to Biden, seeing him as closer to classic conservatism than Trump.
Republicans used to claim they were for “law and order”. Yet they celebrate Trump cheating on his taxes, celebrate vigilantism, don’t seem to mind gun-toting right wing white men taking over the capital in Michigan ( presumably because a Democrat woman was in power there), encourage people not to wear masks even if there are rules in place requiring masks , have church sevices in defiance of court orfers, and they seem to be trying to overturn all the laws that were put into place to protect Americans’ right to vote. That is hardly acting pro – law and order. This is definitely not your father’s Republican party anymore.
For my last 15 yrs in CA I was registered as a “decline to state” – so I had no party affiliation – couldn’t vote in partisan primaries.
I do like #3 as pro life – I am anti abortion, I am anti war, I am anti death penalty and I am anti euthanasia and anti mercy killing.
I am politically conservative (what the government is charged with doing by the constitution) and socially and culturally liberal (what me and my church are charged with doing by my Lord Jesus Christ)
I am dismayed that so many Christians have stayed away from their churches since March. Many will never come back as they have grown accustomed to brunch at 11 with the Sunday news shows, or whatever people do on Sunday mornings when they are not in Church where they belong.
I don’t think the Church should focus on any “they. ” IF we focus on the Kingdom of God, we can be a voice of sweet, honest reason in a deluded, confused world.
Temporal facts V Eternal facts? And I think that works even though not all of us are on the same page
But then, i don’t know , do I? 🙆 just thinkin… again… thinkin
1. QAnon is a modernized blood libel. They just can’t use the word Jew, so it’s couched in global cabal phraseology.
2. Evangelical leaders forget that two elements are involved in Useful Idiot status. Not one, and never three. Should there ever be a change from two, it can be fatal.
The heads of the SA found this the hard way when lined up and shot. But allegedly, Ernst Rohm shouted heil Hitler as he was shot in his cell. He may never have grasped that when he was no longer needed, he was no longer useful. Loyalty was fatal.
If an authoritarian administration can be empowered with an Evangelical aliance, then why would Evangelicals be needed any longer, after it’s empowerment?
I am dismayed that Christians have stayed away from church, too. I am dismayed that the ceramics classes I taught for 10 years at the Oceanside Recreation Center have been cancelled since March, too. I am also dismayed that I haven’t seen my children or grandchildren since March. What is even more dismaying us that my beloved next door neighbor has Covid19. He wnt to visit his mother in Virginia and caught it while he wad there from his mother, who caught it while she was in the hospital being treated for a different medical issue. She died of Covid and he is now very dick with a fever that has lasted for over 10 days. His sistet has it, too.Nobody likes having to stay away from family ,friends, church or a job they love. I don’t believe people will stay away from their churches after this is over, any more than I believe that people will continue to stay separated from their families, their friends, their former occupations or their grandchildren! Chris Christie, who caught Covid at the White House where no-one was wearing a mask, has released a powerful statement. He says that he now feels the White House was a very unsafe place to be, especially without a mask on. He said, ” I was WRONG” Wear a mask and follow all CDC guidelines.” He was in the hospital for a week, and he now wants to warn people not to break the rules that have been given to us for our own protection.
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being very conservative, the Senator from Nebraska is one of the few unashamed authentic conservatives in contemporary American politics.
Here’s is opinion:
“The way he kisses dictators’ butts. I mean, the way he ignores that the Uyghurs are in literal concentration camps in Xinjiang right now. He hasn’t lifted a finger on behalf of the Hong Kongers,” Sasse said.
He continued, “The United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership. The way he treats women and spends like a drunken sailor. The ways I criticized President (Barack) Obama for that kind of spending, I’ve criticized President Trump for as well. He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors. His family has treated the presidency like a business opportunity. He’s flirted with white supremacists.” – Ben Sasse, 10/15/2020
We who claim Christ as Redeemer and King should ALL say amen…. IMO, of course

Yes, this is what we’ve come to.
Denial, those people don’t need to go to church or be the church because they have been convinced that the government is being the church for them.
Denial = Xenia3 according to autocorrect

Authoritarian is one thing…. The problem comes when the government disregards the Constitution and our Bill of Rights…
Or so it seems to me……

I put this on the wrong post.

I would love to hear the set of policies that you feel qualify as conservative.
Some meat on that bone please.
Not a gotcha just a serious interest in what constitutes conservative.
My guess it’s personal more than political.

If we ever make it through this pandemic I think that people will flock back to church and celebrate life once more. But will we?
