Thanks to everyone for the Birthday Wishes.

I hope my absence from here is short. I took off last week for Holy week and didn’t have much to say about the BCC & School situation and then the site went down.

I have been using my blogging skills on a couple of atheist sites.

  24. Em says:

MLD! You share a birthdate with my favorite man alive on the planet today. My uncle is 96 years old today and going strong mentally and physically – here’s wishing (with prayer) the same for you.

  25. Dave Rolph says:

Happy Birthday MLD! You are a real blessing to me personally, and to everyone here. You are as comfortable in your own skin as anyone I know and that is a rarity.

  26. Believe says:

    MLD…happy birthday!

I’m sure the atheists are enjoying your input on the other sites πŸ™‚

Blogging with the atheists just reinforces to me how much we are all brothers and sisters here.

  30. Michael says:

    That’s an interesting observation…
    How so?

  31. Another Voice says:

    MLD,

I was looking to invite you to a fantasy camp with the Dodger old-timers for your birthday.

Then Torre called me..and to make a long story short

They need you to start tomorrow..

  32. Nonnie says:

MLD said: Blogging with the atheists just reinforces to me how much we are all brothers and sisters here.

I am guessing that is because even though we have some very different opinions, Christ unites us and love covers our differences. God IS love.

That is my 2 cents worth.

  33. Believe says:

Don’t know if any of you own stocks…MLD and I have had a discussion or two.

But if you do…Hoenig from the FED is hinting at higher interest rates. The National Deficit is over the tipping point…so the FED is being forced to deal with it…or risk some major problems.

However, we need to increase the deficit to keep the markets going.

The hinting of the rise in rates will stop the stock rally we’ve seen (near parabolic) since March lows of 2009.

If you’ve made some nice gains since then…might want to consider selling your long positions and keeping some of the gains.

We’re looking to have a pretty healthy pullback in stocks short-term.

Just some free advice…so take it as such (you get what you pay for) πŸ™‚

  34. Cash says:

Happy Birthday MLD! You are fun!

  35. deadmanwalking says:

MLD thank you, for much more than mere input. You really made me re-think a great many presuppositions I once held. You taught me to not just respect Lutherans, but to see the spiritual riches in the Lutheran Church. A long long time ago, (before PP) when a Lutheran Church had their first service in Elsinore I attended just to show my respect and to show my support for the new fellowship I loved that the worship was done with all facing forward (no one to look at except the back of one man who lead the singing) — They were meeting in a Seventh Day Adventist building at the time, I noted the message was given from off to the side of the platform, and I understood they were leaving center place for God and God alone. , and to my surprise I found it a rich experience, and you helped me to understand why that experience was so rich.

    Happy Birthday

    MB,

There have been lots of discussions about Wright and the NPP in the past on here. Maybe Michael or someone could provide some links.

  40. Sarah says:

Lutheran…they might have been on the .com. There might be a better thread to carry on the conversation, though. NT Wright is a little below MLD for his birthday πŸ˜‰ I’ll see if I can find anything.

  41. BrianD says:

MLD, Happy Birthday. I hope it is a good one and that there are many more good ones to come for you on this earth.

My gift to you is a Dodgers win tonight. It’s up to them to pull it off.

  47. Lutheran says:

‘Some are even saying that Bishop Wright is the β€œLuther of our day.’

This one always cracks me up. Some are dead wrong.

I can safely say that no one will ever reach Luther’s stature — there have been more books written about Luther than anyone in human history except for, of course, Jesus Christ.

Having said that, I know Bishop Wright has some things worth hearing. I haven’t done as much studyof his positions as I should, because I hate ‘Cliff’s Notes’ summaries. I always always have appreciated his defense of orthodox Christianity against much more liberal scholars, such as on PBS shows I’ve seen int he past.

I’ve also said this before, that I don’t think Wright knows Lutheranism. he said in an interview that he’s read little of Luther. The theology of Calvin and Luther are far from interchangeable.

  48. Michael says:

He doesn’t know Calvin either…or he would know that Calvin took apart the NPP 500 years ago.

  49. Michael says:

N.T. Wright and the NPP is the American church raising up of a guru…because we love our gurus.

None of the European scholars I spoke with in Geneva thought “Tom” was worth debating on the issue because it wasn’t an issue to them…only in America would such nonsense get any traction.

  50. Lutheran says:

    Michael,

    Your 9:40 — great point.

  51. Michael says:

    Lutheran,

The Calvinist brothers affirmed what you said about Wrights understanding of Luther btw.

In our camp we’re allowed to venerate both the great Reformers… πŸ˜‰

  52. Michael says:

The only people that would claim that Wright was the Luther of our day have never read Luther…

  53. Michael says:

Furthermore…we don’t need a new Luther or a new Calvin, we need people to quit filling their minds with tripe and read the originals…who are incomparable.

  54. London says:

    Happy Birthday MLD

  55. Lutheran says:

    Michael,

I think pretty highly of Calvin. I get really sick sometimes of my tight-a*s Lutheran brothers who always seem to be picking at Calvin’s nits. Truth is, we share more common ground than we do with non-Reformation evangelicals. I believe their theologies (L&C) is a blessing to the wider Church, too.

  56. Michael says:

    Lutheran,

I know you do, you’ve always been respectful of Calvin…I just HATE the way we do theology in this country.

People want to argue about baptism or predestination without doing the work to earn the right to an opinion.

The real work is in understanding the basic doctrines of God, then, the doctrine of man etc that a Calvin or Luther developed…then you understand why a certain tradition holds to certain beliefs…not before.

    I know… I’m singing to the choir… πŸ˜‰

  57. Captain Kevin says:

Great singing Michael! You can join my choir. πŸ™‚

  58. Captain Kevin says:

I’ll even give you a solo bit on Pentecost when we sing, “Goodness gracious, great tongues of fire!!”
