I was glad to read that blogger won!

I always appreciate articles on the theme of “Silence” or listening, rather than talking. As an extrovert, I know this is always something I can always improve upon in my life. So I’ll shut up now and look forward to hearing from some of you.

Do Nones belong to the Convent of Unbelief? (Just had to throw in a poor pun)

I’m always suspicious of any studies claiming that a huge group or generation has become suddenly uninterested in religion. I think often it is a matter of how the question is worded, especially when so many young people have been indoctrinated to sloppy hyper-individualistic Evangelicalism. They are brainwashed to hate the term “religion” as if that is some kind of evil word. Instead, they are told to hunger for a “relationship” with Jesus while despising “religion”. Is it any wonder that such a person would claim to be a “None” on a survey about religion?

EricL – To your point, remember that video going around a year ago. Why I hate religion but love Jesus. I saw that thing shared all over the internet – by Christians.

I just looked it up. It has over 27 million views, has spawned all sorts of rip-offs and parodies.

You’re on to something in your post #4

  7. EricL says:

Steve- Another example is the extreme overreaction toward the bad teaching that Christianity is all about the “do nots” and rules and being grumpy for God.

So, instead some folks look at Jesus and expect a relationship like some kind of “friend with benefits”- no commitment, just salvation and lots of fun worship. It’s all about the feelings ain’t it? Leave off that jealous God stuff and the sin-no-more guilt trip. I want to Party for Jesus!

Read the article by Tony Campolo on “Embracing the feminine side of God”. The word picture that title creates seems so wrong: Tony hugging a skirt-wearing God. Just a bit much on the anthropomorphism there, Campolo.

Do we have to assign a gender designation to various feelings/ emotions/ actions? Especially when we are talking about God’s emotions and actions?

    from To experience God’s love…

“We need this prayer from 2 Thessalonians 3:5: “May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s patience.”

EricL said, ‘Do we have to assign a gender designation to various feelings/ emotions/ actions? Especially when we are talking about God’s emotions and actions?’

    Well said.

  11. Your right Dusty, EricL is on to something.

It is the human~side of this issue that assigns gender to what is essentially ā€œnon-specificā€ gender in reality.

I haven’t read the article, but I have always appreciated the “feminine” characteristics of God in His word. Matthew 23:37, Isaiah 49:15, Isaiah 66:11-13, Psalm 131:2-3

To know that God completely understands the unique characteristics that only women experience and that He even uses examples, such as breastfeeding in the Holy Scriptures, to explain His love and compassion for us. That has always been precious to me.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after OUR likeness:…So God made man in his own in image, in the image of God created he him, MALE and FEMALE created he them.ā€ (Gen 1:26-27)
    (emphasis mine)

  14. That is just a sad story.
I guess some people worship their alternative energy enough that it doesn’t matter how it is achieved.

  15. Dusty says:

Derek, so sad….bad enough they kill them but then to discard them as nothing more than trash. they have more regard for animals, even give them funerals….but unborn babies….nothing but the trash heap… They will be sorry when they have to face God about this!!!! 😄

Can anyone “Vet” the article for authenticity? It is very hard to believe anyone could come up with such a scheme. But then we know about what happened during the Hitler monstrosity…
