There’s a lesson here for those interested in “the culture war”.

  2. Scott says:

The lesson in my opinion, is that A&E & Duck Dynasty got more FREE publicity than they could of ever even dreamed of.

The producers are laughing all the way to the bank.

  3. not quite debt free Bob says:

From an old wise sage (OK he made money and didn’t like spiritual frauds)

“Young men starting in life should avoid running into debt. There is scarcely anything that drags a person down like debt. It is a slavish position to get ill, yet we find many a young man, hardly out of his “teens,” running in debt. He meets a chum and says, “Look at this: I have got trusted for a new suit of clothes.” He seems to look upon the clothes as so much given to him; well, it frequently is so, but, if he succeeds in paying and then gets trusted again, he is adopting a habit which will keep him in poverty through life. Debt robs a man of his self-respect, and makes him almost despise himself.” P.T. Barnum

Maybe a good way to start the new year.

  4. The Duck controversy is easy. A & E just bought time until they could get the numbers in. I don’t think ‘christian pressure’ had anything to do with it.

The numbers probably came back that homosexuals do not watch Ducks at all. Homosexuals don’t like hairy men, guns or hunting.

Once they found this out, they were able to decide, that a homosexual boycott would mean nothing.

I think the DD controversy was over before it started, and all parties knew it.

Hey all!!! It’s not quite the new year, but I am already enjoying reading. Hanging out at the local coffee shop alternating between Walter Wangerin’s This Earthly Pilgrimage and Leif Enger’s So Young, Brave and Handsome: A Novel. Sigh…a wonderful Saturday 😉

  8. Hair on head Bob says:

“Homosexuals don’t like hairy men, guns or hunting.”

So what, in your experience, makes you say this?

    Just saying…

Just to add some advice to young men…

Take one thin dime off of everydollar you earn and put it aside for yourself before you pay anyone else. Then when you have enough set aside open a stock account and only invest in bluechip stocks. Eventually you will accrue enough to invest.

Here is an excellent book in PDF format that someone shared with me in my youth:

    A bit depressed, but determined.

The Saeed situation is totally frustrating. I know what you mean brother…Where is the God of Elijah!? Why Lord? Why?

    2 Kings 2:14
…Where is the Lord God of Elijah? …

Please come down off Your throne O God and help this man of God and bring him back to his family unharmed. We all would ask this of you in Jesus name.

  13. Amen! Dave

Where is the God of Elijah? The God of Elijah is waiting for Elijah to call upon Him.

  15. I have resolved to become the “persistent widow” to the Robertson family on twitter. I think I will tweet at them once a day.
I will get an RT for #freesaeed.

Gay atheist philanthropist Robert W. Wilson, who gave over $30 mil to Catholic schools, jumps off building.

Man, I don’t know where to go with that one.

  17. Dude says:

My brother told me on Christmas day Phil would be back on the show within the week.He said it was about profits and nothing more.

  18. I got a question for all y’all DD conspiracy theorists on here.
Are you saying that you believe that Phil was in on it? That it was all a scam by the family and the network to garner attention and profits?
Why? They were already the second highest rated show on TV, behind “The Walking Dead”.

Sorry, but if this is the route your minds are going down, I can’t go there. I actually believe Phil believes everything he says and would not have backed down.

I can see A&E backing down, because they don’t want to lose the profits to the network.

But, Phil still lives in a double-wide mobile home. It doesn’t look like the show is going to his head.
Sorry, if that is what you are selling, I am not buying it.

But, I predicted to my wife that that would be the next thing to be said.
It isn’t any fun unless we can ascribe some kind of nefarious evil schemes to every man around.

  19. To get back to Saeed Abedini,
I was up late on Christmas Eve thinking and praying about him and I wrote this.

I was really struggling with why more Christians turn a blind eye to persecution and why they aren’t more empathetic to them. So I realized I needed to write reasons why they should be.

Michael I know you have lots of trouble with your wrists, the fire feeling the numbness the fingers spasms. I can relate. I found this product out of desperation and no I do not work for them LOL. Hope it helps.

  21. Michael says:

    I’ll try it, brian!
My hands are about as functional as claws these days…

I have about 60 % use on a good day. They offer support at a variety of tensions I found them and CVS and Walgreens, I am sure they are at walmart. They are a bit expensive but you can take them back after a few days if they dont work. I slept with mine on when my hands were really bad and it helped calm down the nerves.

In 1983 the move “The Day After” aired on ABC. It told the story of a nuclear exchange between the US and the Soviet Union. It drew huge ratings and national attention including the White House.

This evening I watched it on youtube and it brought back so many memories from thirty years ago.

I’m sure back then I viewed the movie through the eyes of prophecy and the rapture using the movie as a way to share with people.

I think this movie struck me deeper than the prophecy films I had and have seen throughout the years. The movie showed me human misery as the result of the evil we are capable of. The prophecy movies were more of an escape from the tribulation for me than a deep concern for the plight of all people. That was how I was wired back then. I was more concerned about an event (the rapture) than I was for the misery surrounding me every day of my life.

I don’t say any of this to bag on prophecy or anyone in the church. The movie sent me back 30 years and tonight I got a glimpse of myself. Just in case anyone might be interested you can watch it here….. [youtube=]

That’s ok, erunner- it’s your turn (to goof). I’ve taken too many turns already.

It’s more likely that North Korea or China would nuke the US with other nations piling on.
