Prayer & Praise
We are surrounded by a din of demanding voices:
selling,
recruiting,
seducing,
coercing.
We screen them out in order to maintain our sanity,
to secure our rest.
And then, in the night, you address us,
you call us by name,
you entrust to us risky words,
you empower us with authority.
But your voice is on first hearing not distinctive.
We confuse your voice with that of an old friend,
or deep hope,
or powerful fear,
or an ancient bias.
We hear, but we do not listen –
jolted, bewildered, resistant.
But your voice sneaks up on us:
you address us,
you call us by name,
you entrust us with risky words,
you empower us with authority.
Sometimes…occasionally…boldly…we answer:
“Speak, I am listening.”
Then we say, “Here am I.”
And listening, we are made new and sent dangerously by your address.

Yesterday a couple of us went to a local park and gave out little goodie bags to some homeless folks who hang there.
We always ask if there’s something we can pray about for them.
One guy, named Francisco, has stayed in my mind, so I’m hoping you guys can pray for him too.
He’s in a wheelchair with one leg amputated and is having major issues with his eyes being infected for about the last month.
He said he’s lost his night vision ability and keeps running into things like trees, metal benches and walls when’s he’s trying to get around at night.
He was a nice guy and I felt bad for him. We gave him a set of reading glasses to at least help a bit in the day time but didn’t have a flashlight.
He had a hospital bracelet on and said he’d gone there but they didn’t help.
He’s only had the issue for a month so I think he’s a bit panicked.
Anyway, pray for Francisco to get that sorted with medical help if you’re so inclined.
Prayers, O LORD, for true shalom for Francisco!
Happy Father’s Day to all the men here. .
and Go Phil Mickelson!
Praying for Francisco.
God bless all the dads out there.
Praying for Francisco.
For anyone that needs it, my wife, who has worked in healthcare fields for a while, mentioned this website yesterday.

They offer help with the cost of medicine.
Praying for Francisco…
oh Lord, may Francisco see at night.
I have a job interview today. I do well in interviews, but my stomach is still in knots.
prayers for and blessings to you, Derek, regarding your interview.
Praise here now!
Thank you to all that prayed, I got the job and I go to orientation in the morning.
Great news, Derek! (How were the stomach knots?) 🙂
They dissipated once I got there.
Now we need to keep the prayer up for Michael. Be like the woman pestering the judge. 🙂
I guess you had every reason to be confident. Congratulations, Derek—shaved beard and all, you landed the job! Praise God. .
trimmed beard i meant to say. . not shaved. . sorry
Was able to use my influence and relationship with my boss today to land a friend of mine a driving job down in L.A. where he lives.
It’s a dream job for any driver, home every night and weekend and be able to take his dog with him on the truck 😉 Not to mention the pay is 25% above what he’s making now, not to mention the benefits.
This a fellow that was a student of mine when I used to train drivers for another company. I’ve stayed in touch with him this past year and a half just being his friend. He’s an atheist and I’ve been telling him that God is going to bless him and show him he’s real. Wow! I’m so happy for the guy.
That is good news Scott!
