Reclaiming Our God-Engineered Biology: Introducing Dr. Peggy Philips and The Lighthouse Project
We’ve spent a long, long time here dealing with spiritual abuse and the trauma that follows.
What we haven’t done is provide resources to help people heal.
A couple of months ago, I had the rare pleasure of adding someone to the church I pastor.
Rare, because I don’t let just anybody in…I’m trying to make disciples, not counting backsides in the seats.
Peggy passed the Grand Inquisition and we’re better for it.
Over that time, I’ve found my new friend to be a real resource for dealing with all manner of issues involving trauma and abuse…and how to recover from the same.
So, I’m introducing Peggy to my readers in the hope that some of you will find help and hope in her work.
We’ll be doing an article weekly…if you have questions ,feel free to ask.

👍🏻. 😎
Okay, I went to the Dr’s website and found a whole bunch of big words and things I had no idea what shoe is talking about. So I took quotes from the Dr’s site and have them translated into common language I could understand via AI.
From the site:
“”Evidence-Based Neuroscience
of Neuro Emergent Therapy
Utilizing polyvagal theory, somatic discharge, and neuroplasticity to safely unlatch subcortical locks. Reframing severe anxiety and freeze responses not as diagnostic defects, but as highly technical, protective scripts executed by an overtaxed operating system.””
Translated into everyday language:
“This approach uses current brain-and-nervous-system science to work with severe anxiety and “freeze” states.
It draws on three main ideas:
How the autonomic nervous system shifts between feeling safe and connected, fight-or-flight, and shutdown (polyvagal theory).
Letting the body physically complete and release stored survival tension (somatic discharge).
The brain’s ability to form new patterns over time (neuroplasticity).
The goal is to gently loosen automatic, below-conscious survival reactions that have gotten stuck “on.”
Instead of treating intense anxiety or freezing as a personal defect or a diagnosis that means something is wrong with you, it treats them as protective programs. Those programs were written to keep you safe. They just kept running too hard, for too long, on a system that was already overloaded.”
And what does this mean: “Ayurvedic body-based”?
““Ayurvedic body-based” means practices that work through the body, using ideas and methods from Ayurveda (the traditional Indian system of health).
In plain terms:
Ayurvedic = based on Ayurveda’s view that the body, digestion, energy, and mind stay balanced through constitution (doshas), daily routine, food, oils, breath, and physical treatments.
Body-based = the work is done on or with the body, not mainly by talking. Think touch, movement, oil, heat, breath, and sensation rather than insight or conversation alone.
Common examples:
warm oil massage (abhyanga)
oil poured on the forehead (shirodhara)
yoga postures and breathing
pressure on specific points (marma)
body-cleansing routines (parts of panchakarma)
diet and daily habits meant to change how the body feels and functions
So the phrase usually means: hands-on or physical practices drawn from Ayurveda, used to shift the nervous system, tension, or overall state through the body rather than through talk therapy.”
And there’s more like this.
In general way too many academic-sounding words for me to trust the Dr with my life. These make me feel like the Dr is trying hard to impress the reader with some sort of special knowledge that she has discovered.
Like all things, if it works for you and she has made a personal connection then go for it.
