John Calvin suffered and died from a host of ailments that today would have been remedied by a stay of less than a week in a hospital.
He had hemorrhoids so bad he couldn’t sit down at times.
He had kidney stones that caused him terrible pain.
The cure in his day for kidney stones was to vigorously ride a horse…
He is believed to have had some parasite from poor food and squalid conditions from when he was in college that causes constant stomach troubles.
Tuberculosis finally took him out.
A life long of misery then would be a few days treatment today.
The treatments and cures for those ailments had to be in the mind of a sovereign, omniscient, God even then, but for some reason He withheld them.
That which was incurable and deadly then is easily treated now.
Last Friday, I solemnized a marriage for a young couple.
Monday, the new groom visited a doctor in another city.
Today, he is home in hospice care.
I have friends and family members struggling to cope with the ravages of ALS, of the mysteries of mental illness, cancer, and a host of other afflictions.
The treatments and cures for these have to be in the mind of our sovereign, omniscient God, and should He tarry they will be revealed in time.
Tell us now, Lord.
Please…tell us now.

Thank JtK for that list. I think we do not have the substantial scientific breakthroughs of yesteryear because science has pushed God out of the equation. I pray that young scientists would be critical thinking, bold in their faith, and have the ability to band together to resist the censure of academia for Christians.
Good point to the article.
I think that Science is a continuation of discovering realities of our Universe/Multiverse and how our bodies work as well as how other aspects of the U/M work.
That’s why it gets discouraging to see so many fundamentalists who are anti-Science.
I think Scientists will discover how to cure/correct/mitigate those other diseases/maladies on your list in time. I don’t know that it is some sort of “God is withholding it” thing…I think it is more “Man Would Rather Kill Each Other” thing in terms of priorities and funding and emphasis etc.
Great article, Michael…yes, Lord, please help us to cure these rampant diseases. My husband has surgery for cancer Monday–prayers are appreciated.
Linnea,
You and you husband were two that were on my mind as I wrote this morning.
Praying for you both, my friend.
Thank you so very much, Michael 🙂
Yes, LORD, yes…PLEASE!!!
Linnea, praying for your hubby, and you too.
For you as well, CK…
CK–thank you! And praying for you as well….
as a mother i had a treat this morning as i listened to my daughter expound on things scientific – she gets Stephen Hawking – she said that she thinks the reason that scientists today find it important to disprove/deny God is because their studies are so deep and they are so into their subjects and so competitive among themselves that they subconsciously don’t want to get to a place where they prove God and find that someone got there (the ultimate secret of the universe) before them…
