When The Seas Don’t Part

Earlier this week, I wrote about the amazing way God answered prayers for a stray cat named Leon.
Leon was trapped between a rock and a hard place. Then the sea parted—a way opened where we couldn’t see one.
Having been part of that answered prayer, I thought perhaps God would do the same for me. I was in a tight spot, too.
But the sea didn’t part.
It roared in my face.
And I was afraid.
What do you do when the sea doesn’t part and the Egyptians of life are on your heels?
Moses told the people:
“Don’t be afraid.”
“Just stand still.”
“Watch the LORD rescue you today.”
“Just stay calm.”
I did the exact opposite.
I panicked. I ran around trying to fix everything. I stopped looking for what God might be doing because I couldn’t see him doing what I wanted.
I read this passage and want to be Moses.
This week, I was one of the people asking why we ever left Egypt.
Tomorrow, I’ll bring that frightened person back to God. I’ll try to stand still long enough to watch, even if I’m still afraid.
I don’t know when the sea will part, or what rescue will look like.
But I can pray:
I believe. Help my unbelief.

Hello Michael I just wanted to share some encouragement because my mother has been in a similar situation with housing. She found a room to rent in a great 2bdrm apartment. Her roommate was great, very quiet and worked a lot. She has a hard time socially since she’s autistic and has a lot of trauma that makes it very difficult for her to find safe roommates that aren’t too triggering for her. A few months ago her roommate was evicted and she was told she could pay the full price for the apartment or find someone to sublet that room. It has gone months empty with no luck on roommates and she’s searched high and low for every answer. She laid out to the Lord her requirements for a roommate so she could still feel safe at home. She had looked into a traveling nurse program, but that couldn’t work without her having a fully furnished room to rent out and she’s on a very fixed budget. So for months now she’s interviewed countless people for the room and not had any success. This week she was approached by friends and asked if she wanted their recently passed mother’s full sized bedroom set and furniture. They didn’t know what she was going through, just that she had been kind and helpful while their mother was passing and thought of her before donating elsewhere. With a fully furnished room she can rent to the traveling nurse program, which fully vets her, the rotating nurses coming into the city and handles the logistics. Her community came together and got all of the furniture to her and helped her decorate and set it all up, and now she’s working on establishing with that program. She thought she was going to have to give up the apartment and find a room to rent herself but all of those doors were shutting. She had to wait months before her door opened, and it was a door that was kept closed prior.
Obviously your situation is different and has its complications in its own ways. But God knows exactly what you need and already has a plan in place. Still do your diligence to seek out your options, but I hope you can rest easy knowing you’re cared for and will be provided for even if provision comes about in the craziest way.
Sincerely, your ex PFM cult rescue turned deconstructed Christian catapulted back to church this year in the most insane way. God was very quiet with me while I didn’t understand for years and now that it’s time to move He is very loud and apparent. I hope you receive the same apparent answer and swiftly. Stay well and thank you for your authenticity. I don’t comment but I skim your emails that come through and have since you reported on PFM years ago. In a lot of ways your relationship with God has kept me sane and going so I hope I can encourage you a little with this.
Michaela,
Thank you for the encouragement and the kind words.
I’m glad I was able to be of help to you…and that you and God are on speaking terms.
Much love to you my brave friend…
Michael,
My heart goes out to you. I could easily imagine myself and my wife in your situation; we’ve been homeless in the past, albeit for a short time, but it was terrifying, and I’m conscious of all the ways that now, years later, it could happen again, and could easily last much longer. I’m praying for you to find a place that is home for you, and soon.
Thank you Robert F….I confess that I’m a bit terrified…all the waiting lists for subsidized housing are years long…I will need divine intervention…may God grant you and your bride stability and a sense of permanence…
I lost the room I was renting in late 2024 because the person who I rented from got married and was going to start a family. As a 1 Timothy 5:5 widow I was terrified. After another widow friend rented her RV to my cat and I for a few months before she moved out of state, I had to find a room to rent and I was very worried. I prayed very specifically for what I hoped for, as there were many special circumstances for my situation.
A mutual acquaintance knew of my situation and said she knew of a missionary couple who had an ADU in their backyard that they used to let people transitioning back into society after being part of a sobriety program. They hadn’t done that in awhile and were actually using it as storage. I reached out to them and asked if they would consider renting it to a widow and her cat. Not only was the ADU everything I prayed for, and all my special circumstances were met, this family has since adopted this old widow and has helped me heal a great deal. So much so that there is the beginnings of a widows ministry in the near future.
I played out many scenarios in my head of my potential living situation. I could have never come up with the way this worked out and the many blessings that have resulted. I’m asking the Lord to do the same for you. I hope you can find some encouragement in this. I am praying earnestly for you and your cat.
Kristi,
Good to see you again!
Thank you for your encouragement and your prayers.
You have always had a big heart…
