James MacDonald Fired
Warren Throckmorton is reporting this morning that Harvest Bible Chapel has fired James MacDonald.
The Chicago Tribune affirms the matter.
The tipping point (after years of allegations of financial and spiritual abuse) was a tape purportedly of MacDonald saying profane things about the editor and publisher of Christianity Today and World reporter Julie Roys.
The voice on the tape suggested planting child pornography on the editors computer…
Please note that the elders did not fire him for suing Roys and two bloggers and their wives…weaponizing the legal system and the tithes and offerings of God’s people against those who exposed him.
That, evidently, was a godly idea to them.
That suit was only dropped because a court ruled that the defense was entitled to discovery…which would have exposed this scoundrel and his lackeys even more.
Ryan Mahoney and Scott Bryant are the bloggers, the site was called “The Elephants Debt” and they are the real heroes in this story…though they won’t be received as such by many.
In a world that represented anything remotely “Christian” they would be recompensed for their legal fees, the stress the suit created, and all their work that led to this action.
MacDonald will land on his feet somewhere as all these grifters do…after all, “he’s such a good teacher”.
Good teachers who are horrible human beings always have a place in American free market religion…which may be one reason the market keeps shrinking…
I always thought he was a crappy, faith killing teacher who should have been fire many years ago for that. But what do I know?
I was just talking to a friend about how easily some people dismiss 1 Corinthians 6…
How did they bring such a lawsuit?
Did anyone ever ask?
2am here at work in ATL…my take:
Most of these things that are coming to light about Christian leaders reminds me of this:
“what’s spoken of in secret will be shouted from the rooftops”
