Prayer & Praise
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
We hear the story of the wind at Pentecost,
Holy wind that dismantles what was,
Holy wind that evokes what is to be,
Holy wind that overrides barriers and causes communication,
Holy wind that signals your rule even among us.
We are dazzled, but then – reverting to type –
We wonder how to harness the wind,
how to manage the wind by our technology,
how to turn the wind to our usefulness,
how to make ourselves managers of the wind
Partly we do not believe such as odd tale
because we are not religious freaks;
Partly we resist such a story,
because it surges beyond our categories;
Partly we had imagined you to be more ordered
and reliable than that.
So we listen, depart, and return to our ordered existence:
we depart with only a little curiosity
But not yielding;
we return to how it was before,
unconvinced but wistful, slightly praying for wind,
craving for newness,
wishing to have it all available to us.
We pray toward the wind and wait, unconvinced but wistful.
Walter Brueggemann Prayers for a Privileged People

still resonating from the reading i am praying for us, the “Privileged”
yesterday, the day of Michael’s posting of this meditation (May 23rd) should have been a memorial day here – Pentecost – Ephesians 4:27-32
“give us this day our daily bread” … “forgive us… as we forgive” … but Lord, DELIVER us from evil, we’re just no match for the devil’s insidious chicanery
What a wonderful reflection on the Holy Spirit…thanks for posting, Michael. This refreshed my spirit.
My husband’s having a hard time with chemo…if you think about it, please pray for him.
Praying Linnea, for your husband. Praying for relief, God’s peace and healing.
prayer continues, Linnea … so sorry it’s hard now
Thank you, Nonnie and em!
Linnea joining em and nonnie in prayers for your husband…
Emergency Request- could you pray for my husband who’s in the ER right now with a large blood clot that runs the length of his arm and I to his heart? Thank you so much.
Linnea…praying.
lifting you folks up in prayer here, also, Linnea … Oh Lord Jesus
Praying for your husband Linnea.
Thank you for your prayers– my husband made it through the night and they’ll decide how to deal with the clot this morning. It looks like the clot formed on the port that was surgically installed for chemo.
This is a unique request and I thought I’d run it by you guys. My mother is in her late 70’s and she absolutely loves receiving e-mails that are uplifting and so forth. Sadly her friends who would send her these e-mails have passed away and those e-mails were a huge part of my mother’s life. Is it possible anyone here would be interested in sending her e-mails? Maybe there are sites that can be contacted that would do this daily but I worry if they try to take advantage of her. Anyway I hope you are all well.
Linnea I am praying for your husband and family. I’m so sorry this is taking place.
Erunner, i think Michael has my Email addy
Erunner, I’d be happy to write to her.

Lord have mercy on Linnea’s dear husband.
Thank you em and Xenia. I sent you each an e-mail.
Erunner, can she open attachments, if we should send pictures?
i sent her a link and worried that she may not be comfortable opening that either…
I left her a message and I’ll let you know when I hear back. Allan
Erunner, I’d be happy to write your mum!
Michael, Xenia, ERunner, Em, Nonnie…thank you for your prayers. My husband was released from the hospital today. The chemotherapy port, which caused the huge clot, was removed, and he is resting at home. I am so grateful for your prayer support! Now, some decisions need to be made about continued chemotherapy…sigh…
ERunner–I’d love to email your Mom. Is it possible to post your email address so I can send to you? Love to you and your family…
Linnea,
We’ll keep praying…and will believe that you’ll make right decisions.
I am happy to read about your husband Linnea. God bless you guys as you move forward and make decisions. erunner54@gmail.com
