Such good articles but I’m going to comment on the one regarding American history. One reason I have never taught in a Christian school is because the teaching of history is stuck somewhere back in the 1950s. It personally grieves me that we cannot admit the truth about ourselves. I also know that not everything is bad; the success of the American experiment has been phenomenal. But, kids need to know about slavery, the extermination of indigenous people, the Gilded Age and how American workers were exploited. At the same time they need to know about the brave people who stepped forward to rectify those situations and improve on them. If we don’t improve our teaching of history, I see more Trumps in our future.
Linn,
Thank you for bringing that story up…I concur.
Makes it worth to effort to make this thing…
Michael-They were all great links and I had already read a number of them (all my extra reading time disappears when I go back to school next week!). This one caught my eye because we are living in an age where we deny actual facts of history (like the Holocaust) or interpret them to serve our own ends. Both are wrong, in my opinion.
The idea that Noah’s curse was somehow just has been around for centuries. Justin Michael Reed has a book dealing with the history of that bad idea that just got published within the last year.

It’s not a cheap book but it’s one of the more fascinating and rewarding reads I’ve had from the first half of 2026.
Linn,
These articles are like old music albums used to be…a couple of hits and filler. that one was a hit I
I hoped people read…
WTH,
You consistently destroy my book budget… 🙂
“Long after they leave” the arrogant apostate church as we did.

It’s a Sign of the Times-Petula Clark
So now Pirro has convened a special grand jury so Trump can have Hearn, and the others falsely accused of Reflecting Pool vandalism, condemned without a conviction. Our government is being run by thugs. We are now past the threshold of how authoritarian government uses a justice system to underwrite its false narratives and destroys innocent people caught up int its machinations. This is not a law and order administration; this is a lawless one.
Linn @ 4:01 pm,
Well said Linn, well said.
We ignore this stuff to our own peril.
But I still have faith in the American people.
We never have, and never will tolerate a Tyrant.
Thanks for linking the article on church abuse. I see myself in all of it. Never recovered from the spiritual abuse I got when I first moved here two decades ago, where leaders and congregation alike did a good job of making me feel thoroughly unlovable, unforgivable and irredeemable not only by them but by God, and those accusations affect me to this day. Struggled for years to make sure I didn’t lose my faith in a God Who for so long seemed to be one who allowed “fake” churches to waylay vulnerable believers (as well as proxies to administer his harsh judgment), and I’m tired of the cruel Christianese messages from people to whom someone who has been harmed by church represents a threat to their church — particularly the ones about the church being a hospital for the sick (but hospitals are supposed to be full of healthy caregivers, right?) and the Church being the Bride of Christ (that can do no wrong, even when it’s doing wrong, like a friend’s abusive and hateful girlfriend?) and all of the other defend-the-church messages that end with blaming the victim for making their church look bad. I can’t see myself ever attending a church again, and I feel like the Christian community that I was part of my entire life, in all of the different places I’ve lived, is totally gone, and no matter what anyone says, no one in church really cares about the state of my soul (if they ever did). At this point, I no longer feel like I want to explore therapy to convince me to go back to church…for a long time I told myself I’d go if a friend honestly invited me to go to their church service with them (at least I would feel like someone had my back and that would stave off any panic attacks), but when someone did, before the service they introduced me to their worship leader by saying that I was a musician and a former worship leader, and I saw him visibly flinch the way people do when they suddenly perceive you as a threat….nope, not going back to that environment, ever.
(I’ve been lurking here for a very long time, and I continue to pray for you, your kitties, and your community here).
sarahmorgan,
Good to see you here again…you always add something good to discussions you comment in.
This is gold …
“I’m tired of the cruel Christianese messages from people to whom someone who has been harmed by church represents a threat to their church — particularly the ones about the church being a hospital for the sick (but hospitals are supposed to be full of healthy caregivers, right?”
Nobody has put it that well before…the church should be full of healthy caregivers…but it’s not.
Praying that you are able to form some sort of community around you that speaks life to you…doesn’t have to be a church…and thank you for your prayers .
